An interpretation of the grace, poise and emphasis on accepting femininity as represented by tribal bellydance instructor/star Natalie Brown of Alternacirque. We started shooting last minute simple headshots and then towards the end I envisioned a concept which I then ‘supernaturalized’ with photoshop. Hope you like. Frejya is an interesting Norse goddess….a cloak of feathers among her accoutrements.

This is a photo of my first belly dancing coin belt. / I now have many more but this remains a favourite as it was the first. / They are very empowering garments as they give expression to how you walk and the more exhuberantly you walk the more they express themselves and the more you feel like walking. Having over 50 coins jangling is a great way to encourage exercise. They also make you feel very feminine especially when you dance in a circle of lovely women. / Taken with my Sony Cybershot 4.1. So, what do you imagine might happen when a stunning young woman from Texas happens to make the acquaintance of a boastful sultan during a spring break tour of the Far East and challenges him to a few hands of no-limit Texas Hold ‘Em? Well, she wins a palace, that’s what. And in a round of double-or-nothing, his harem as well. Because Amaranth Cody was well brought-up and nothing if not hospitable, she insisted he remain as long as he liked, of course, but insisted that the ladies in his harem be freed, to stay or leave as they wished. Speechless in his fury, the sultan stomped off towards the east (inasmuch as anyone can stomp in sand) and was not heard from again. Should you find yourself in the Far East, be sure to drop by and pay Amaranth a visit, but whatever you do, refrain from challenging her to any card games.
