Bell’s Brae leading to Dean Village in Edinburgh, Scotland. Like most cities, Edinburgh started as a small town with lots of other towns and villages all around. Edinburgh has swallowed them all into its ever expanding boundaries. Dean Village is one of these. Few tourists know that 15 minutes away from Princes Street lies the secluded Dean Village on the Water of Leith. Once a successful milling community, the area was once associated with poverty and decay but the buildings have been turned into designer flats and the village is now a popular residential area. The name Dean means ‘deep valley’ as the village lies 30 meters below the rest of Edinburgh. This makes is quite unique and particularly tranquil considering it is virtually at the heart of Scotland’s Capital. There is a variety of architecture in Dean Village from the robust warehouses and mill buildings, the red sandstone cottage-style buildings to the more modern tenements of English influence. The old core of the village occupies a rocky peninsula. High up on the headland, surrounded on three sides by water, stands the Late Gothic parish church, a prominent landmark; note the fine Baroque interior, the Romanesque crypt and the 15th-16th C. high altar with a beautiful Late Gothic figure of the Virgin. In the churchyard there is a round charnel house of 1278. Close by stands the little 12th C. Rosenkranzkirche (Rosary Church) or Winter Church, with well preserved Romanesque frescos of the Apostles. The picturesque village of Maria Worth is situated on the south shore of Lake Wörthersee and is one of the most charming scenic pearls of Carinthian beauty
a pp technique we learnt in this weeks class with Mel Brackstone this is my 12 yr old daughter, i asked her to go under the water and open her eyes (and look scary) – but she wouldn’t!
This is the steeple of Santa Croce (Holy Cross) church in Assisi, Italy overlooking a beautiful green valley. This church was built in the 13th Century and is therefore older than our country!! / I could not believe my luck to get such a great vantage point. / Assisi was definitely one of the highlights of our trip and this is one of my favourite photos! / FEATURED in the I LOVE ITALY Group. Thank You.

This is the church of St Winnow, which lies on the banks of the River Fowey, just below Lostwithiel in Cornwall, England. The church was featured in the 1977 BBC series of Poldark, which starred Anghard Rees and Robin Ellis, as Ross Poldark. This capture was shot in colour, but converted to B+W with an IR filter in CS3. I quite like the effect, and I hope you do too. / Thank you for looking. Best Viewed Large. Pentax K110D. / Pentax 18-55mm Lens.

Oh I just love the creativity and beauty of this elegant piece! Truly a Vintage jewel!!!! This beautiful woman is from my “La Belle Epoque” era cherished collection. I just could not resist bringing her out, dusting her off and putting her for all to see, it would be such a sad loss to let the sands of time wash over her…So Please Enjoy!
