This is an actual place 1 hour out of Brussels called The Atomium, (great name!) which is a replica of an atom magnified 165 billion times it stands 334.6 ft. high and was built for the 1958 World Expo… it consists of 9 spheres linked with these massive elevator shafts you can physically climb into… I was totally fascinated by the massive scale and although built in 1958, has this tremendous futuristic appeal… wonder if we will all be living in spherical metallic pods in the future… I know I want to!

Entered this amazing forest and all I could think about was dividing the scene into tiny small frames of images within images, hopefully this translates my head space at the time…

... and now for something completely different… This is a winter scene shot in Tervuren, Belgium. This was taken on 35mm film, but as I couldn’t live without a bit of PS post processing, I added the canvas effect to give it a painted appearance. If it bores everyone, I’ll take it off and replace it with something wacko with a horse… to keep the nature theme going on…

FLANDERS FIELDS / The only postprocessing is some contrast added. Taken trough a steamy window that was a little dirty. Nabij Ieper. Niet veel photoshop. Enkel maar wat contrast verhoogd. De foto is genomen van uit een stal door het bedampte raam. De druppels dropen eraf.

the street of the candlesticks
by bellmuskerLightning sends pale flashes across the blood red walls and I know I’m in the street of the candlesticks
The most beautiful place in the world is Brussels; a city where the medieval art is apocalyptic, and tattooed women are adored. I lived in the Sablon, the funky artists’ quarter of tiny crooked lanes and biscuity gabled houses. My home was built in the 1500s and held five storeys lilting into the Flemish sky; my room had blood red walls and huge ivory windows that looked out over the cobblestones. I would sit for hours on end at my windowsill. My street was full of shadows and history, first listed on city maps in the 1100s and graced with both a Flemish and French name, like all streets in Brussels. Rue des Chandeliers / Kandalaarstraat was so magical that stories were delivered to my windowsill, and I spilt my ink with joy. My username comes from here: bell is from the two fourteenth century churches placed at either end of my alley, which would ring out the hours with medieval musicality. Musker is from the Flemish slang for girl, maskker ……and that was me, a dark eyed woman with joy in her heart and ink on her fingertips, watching the Flemish sky and laughing.
