The bravery of being out of range….... Well it’s one of those amazing statements that conjures up a similar image for everyone…WAR For me it was the pilots who were instructed to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. But then I continued the train of thought…...... and as the song suggests, and Danny elaborated, we can all be accused of ‘The bravery of being out of range’. It applies to so much of our everyday life. If I had Scott’s talent I would have illustrated a woman giving birth whilst her partner looks on, a teacher in a classroom, or me! attempting to penitrate the bonds of the merry men (how do you illustrate that?). But I don’t have the talent, so what I have created comes back to my original thought….WAR. Sjem quoted “War is old men talking and young men dying” Odysseus, Troy (the movie). I love this statement but does it continue on from there? / Do we perpetuate the story by glorifying its devastation? poets are inspired to write poetry about it / historians are inspired to write documentries about it / film makers are inspired to make movies about it / artists are inspired to create art about it / musicians are inspired to play music about it / designers are inspired to design t-shirts about it (myself included) Maybe, in the end, we all encourage war one way or another – as artists, we speculate on an experience we haven’t had, and therefore are perhaps the truest version of the brave who are out of range. other work by nook

At Miss Borgia Creed’s Academy for the Indigent Young sporting prowess was loudly acclaimed. Incognita never made any of the teams. Only in the library, a gloomy, dust-bedizened maze that no other student had been known to set foot in, could Cog forget the shame.
Taken at Adelaide Zoo, South Australia, through glass. This python looked like his eye was watching my every move. This image featured in Top Shelf Wildlife and Nature Art in September 2009. Many thanks! And featured again in Zoophoria in September 2009. Thank you! And yet another feature, this time in South Australian Artists in September 2009. Thanks again!
Vegan/Vegetarian t-shirt. Such a simple thing. Beans, not beings. I became a vegetarian after reading how a particular ethnic group eats cats here in Florida (and elsewhere). Then I became a vegan after seeing what happens to calves. Yikes. Cows act like dogs and chickens play with toys. Cows, kitties, chickens, turkeys, lamb, fishies, piggies, horses, dogs, pigs, kangaroos, ostriches and on and on. All are beings and tasty to some, but listen to your heart before it goes numb.
Lee dancing on the cliff edge. The colour in the top cloud is the moon halo. The good news for this shot was that this lovely rockpool lined up beautifully with the moonpath. The bad news was that the rockpool was perched on the edge of a cliff and between the top of the pool and the edge of the cliff there was only an 8” sliver of rock for Lee to stand on. Plus it was blowing a gale (that blur at Lee’s back is her hair blowing in the wind and the chill factor was less than 10 degrees). All Lee had on was this strapless flimsy dress and she kept having to hop out of shot to put her coat and boots on to warm up. And then the idiot photographer would say things to her like “Can you do some rotating pirouettes?” and she had to remind him “You know I’m standing on the edge of a cliff here!” and then shed did them anyway!! It certainly helped that Lee used to be a gymnast but brave or what!! So who would like to volunteer to be my next model :-) Shot off the Bundeena Cliffs, Royal National Park, Sydney Australia. “Where There is Light, There Must Also Be Darkness”, “Every man has a good and bad angel attending on him, all his life long.” – Robert Burton (“Anatomy of Melancholy”) “Man is his own star, and the soul that can, render an honest and a perfect man,Commands all light, all influence, all fate: nothing to him falls early or too late. Our acts are angels are, for good or ill: our fatal shadows that walk by us still.” – John Fletcher (“Upon An Honest Man’s Fortune”) “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” – Bible: 2 Corinthians (11:13-15)

The roadside Pearsons Lookout, on the Castlereagh Highway just south of Capertee village, gives a view over the expansive Capertee Valley / Surrounded by the wonders of World Heritage listed wilderness, the Capertee valley is the world’s second largest canyon. Capertee is 1 kilometre longer than the Grand Canyon, but not quite as deep. Sandstone cliffs dominate the escarpment, drawing down into a deep chasm carved into the environment over millions of years. With tranquil vistas and serene mountain landscapes the Capertee Valley is abundant in flora and wildlife. Under the sandstone layer stretches an enormous layer of coal and oil shale. Rising majestically out of the valley floor is a monolith in size and spectacle. The impressive peak, Pantoney’s Crown, beckons the keen walker to climb its summit. From the top a 360° panorama, of the dramatic and breathtaking valley. The Capertee valley is located in The Gardens Of Stone National Park The Blue Mountains if a World Heritage Area , a few hours by road west of Sydney and are a must when visiting Sydney. I´m in the process of creating a series of images entitled “Windows”; then this image came up, almost by itself. It reminded me of one of my all time favorite songs: Easy To Be Hard, from “Hair”, the 60s legendary rock musical. If you pay attention to the lyrics, you´ll realize that the world hasn´t changed too much since then. / Here´s the link to this song, performed by one of my favorite pop/rock groups: Three Dog Night. / Easy To Be Hard / There´s an outstanding version of this song by 3DogNight with the London Symphony Orchestra but I´ll keep this reference for another tribute to this Group. Cause, let me tell´ya Eli´s Coming… Easy To Be Hard ( lyrics) How can people be so heartless / How can people be so cruel / Easy to be hard / Easy to be cold How can people have no feelings / How can they ignore their friends / Easy to be proud / Easy to say no And especially people / Who care about strangers / Who care about evil / And social injustice / Do you only / Care about the bleeding crowd? / How about a needing friend? / I need a friend How can people be so heartless / You know I’m hung up on you / Easy to give in / Easy to help out And especially people / Who care about strangers / Who say they care about social injustice / Do you only / Care about the bleeding crowd / How about a needing friend? / I need a friend How can people have no feelings / How can they ignore their friends / Easy to be hard / Easy to be cold / Easy to be proud / Easy to say no
For too long now my voice has been strangled. / For too long now I have allowed my song to go unheard. / No More. My power is real and it lies inside, it cannot hide. / You can strip me of my royal robes of deep rich silken violet, / Dress me in whore’s clothes and rip my pages from your book. / You can rape me, enslave me, you can burn me at the stake. / No amount of suffering you bring me can cause my will to break. / I will rise again and again like Venus from the foam, / Inside every woman, mother and child I am free to roam. / I am the spirit of the Goddess, I am the soul of the Divine. This image is part of the Lost Goddess Diaries. / Mixed media and collage on 140lb watercolor paper. / All collaged elements are of my own creation. © AmandaGWright 2009.

Probably for my new calendar…..
today i shall be radiant / standing firm / rooted / i shall reach upward / and glow with the stars / and laugh with a song / that defeats the gray / (cowering and cold / behind me) / today i shall not show / my pain, or doubt, or self-loathing / (this wind will blow them to yesteryear, / if only for today) today i shall bask in what is / and in what is in me / today i shall be radiant
