Bird table antics of young Greenfinch and parent bird. This was a strange one – the young bird lay on the top of the bird table with one wing outstretched as if injured. Behaviour that I’ve seen in Lapwings and other birds as some form of distraction. After a couple of minutes the parent arrived and gave the youngster a severe ‘talking to’! Don’t know what it was all about but it was fun to watch (and photograph) Canon EOS 1d mark II N / Canon 300mm f4 L lens / f4 / 1/800 sec / ISO-200

I can not really explain why Rams were viciously attacked by geese I thought It was very strange behavior unless they had maybe a nest or young nearby however I see no evidence of this. One of mother natures mysteries I guess… (-: I will donate 100% of proceeds from the sales of this image to The Wildlife Trusts
The one computer classroom is always a tough gig for teachers
Remember being sent out of class and having to sit on the chair and ‘think about what you’ve done’? These are taken from the school I’m working in at the moment – maybe some students will recognise them!!! This is best viewed large.

This is one of the things I do with my job with the New South Wales Fire Brigades, Im an instructor in Compartment Fire Behaviour which teaches firefighters how to deal with flashover and backdrafts that can occur in buildings. This simulator demonstrates how fire gases can build up and ignite, When the firefighters use gas cooling techinques by using short pulses on their hoselines, this disperses the gases and eliminates the possibility of these gases igniting.Temperatures in this simulator can at times reach in excess of 800 Degress C. Its the best training and I love every aspect of it.

Captured at Titchwell Marsh, Nr Norfolk England UK. The bloody-nosed beetle (Timarcha tenebricosa) is a large flightless leaf beetle. It gets its common name from a defensive behaviour of exuding a foul-tasting bright red fluid from its mouth, and is also called blood spewer or blood spewing beetle. Average specimens are quite squat being about 2 cm (3/4 inch) long, and about half that wide. They are black to bluish or purplish black in colour. The beetle can be found in southern and central Europe, and is common in Britain and Ireland.
This longhorn beetle seemed to want its photo taken. I found it next to my camera bag as I was about to leave. So I put on the close-up adapter and I think the beetle caught site of something in the reflection in the lens - perhaps its own image, or maybe the sun, colours refracted purple in the lens coating. Or it may have been responding to the sound of the shutter - or a combination of these! The beetle walked over to this upright leaf, and started very deliberately to climb to the top, where it perched and performed for me by flapping its wings rhythmically, open-shut-open—shut two or three times a second, like a clockwork toy! After it fell off the leaf, it repeated the exercise, then flew away. This was the first set of pictures I took which informed me that I could make a photograph that was not merely beautiful, but showed something more of the world than what we can see with our eyes. :) Very exciting!
Courtesy Wikipedia here Gaydar is a portmanteau of gay and radar and refers to the intuitive ability to assess someone’s sexual orientation as gay, bisexual, or straight. The function of gaydar relies on usually non-verbal sensory information and intuitions. These include the sensitivity to social behaviors and mannerisms; for instance, acknowledging flamboyant mannerisms, overtly rejecting traditional gender roles, a person’s occupation and grooming habits. The idea of gaydar is complicated by gay people not acting in a stereotypically “gay” fashion; also by metrosexual men (regardless of sexuality) who seem to have heightened aesthetic senses and exhibit a lifestyle, spending habits and concern for personal appearance close enough to the stereotype of a fashionable urban gay man. ABC News’ 20/20 reported that gaydar does exist but it may work better for gay people and those who pay attention to issues around sexual orientation because they have more invested in knowing if someone was or was not gay.
