  • Arequipa, in the high Andes of Peru, one of the more affluent cities of the country. Blessed with industry and natural resources and tourism. Not all are so fortunate though. As with most cities the world over, there is an under class. This poor famliy were not so well hidden from the tourists and business folk going about their business in the shadows of the Plaza de Armes. You cannot solve ever problem on your travels, and money is often not the best to give. The small hand out of fruit I bought would only go a small way, but hopefully it helped for that day at least.

  • Some of the older Dolphins at Monkey Mia (like Nikki pictured here) learned they could get food by ‘begging’ at boats. Here she tries it with me. She didnt get lucky tho.

  • A flute player ‘begging’ at the World Trade Centre memorial site. It was a cold day!

  • I was very afraid when I took it, but it worths the work. I spent over 3 hours processing it. For me it was a new level of using Photoshop.

  • Again from Big Sur, California, the crows are just wonderful and they will do anything for a nibble, including give you rapt attention. :-) This is the one previously posted with the “Crow’s Feet” but this shot is after I called to it. Someone said these guys are smart. Well, no kidding. This guy probably could understand a few words in English as well as the Spanish spoken by many of the residents. If I’d said something like ‘hello’ I’m sure I would have gotten some sort of verbal reply but that’s like rolling down the window and yelling, “MOOOOO!” at cows as you drive by: really silly and semi-juvenile. Of course, nobody has ever accused me of NOT being silly OR juvenile so I missed my chance to see what this crow would have said back to me. Let’s guess: “Hello!” Crow: “Uh, ‘hello’. Was that good enough for you, you freakin’ tourist?” / Crow: “Look, I’m here for food, not chatting. If I wanted chatting, I’d like ‘Kah!’ just like all the rest of the common crows, right?” / Crow: “I don’t speak to humans.” / Crow: “Hello! I suppose that means ‘no food, bro’, right?” / Crow: “Kah!!!” {If this silly fool thinks I can talk, he’s dumber than dirt.} / Crow: “Yo, bro. Wassup? How’s da ‘hood? Homies all chillin’?” / Crow: “Good morning, sir. I hope your breakfast was pleasing to your pallet. Please allow me to clean your plates and leave a complimentary ‘tip’ for you on the tablecloth for the busboy”

  • This is one of the beggers in the City of Singapore. / You have to remember that, in Singapore there is no Medicare or Welfare. / So if you don’t get help from the public, there’s not much hope left. / This guy had one hand, one eye and one leg to survive with.. / ..........WE DON’T KNOW HOW LUCKY WE ARE. ===================

  • On the riverfront along the Yangtze in China, this blind beggar, fairly well clothed, cried out for an offering, gazing emptily to the sky. Heart wrenching!

  • This is one of the many people on the Streets of San Francisco. I thought this guy was funny as he was sooooo truthful with his sign..LOL…we assisted in the research with a little funding. The additional photo is of hubby and the ‘researcher’. There is nothing like walking in S.F.. There are so many street vendors and performers I could walk up and down the Pier all day just people watching. / Thanks for viewing

  • this child followed us around the market begging for money to buy a pair of shoes Later learned that parents send children to the market to beg and they are not able to come home until they have met their quota

  • Nikon D80 300 VR lens with built -in flash. / Hoian Vietnam

  • This little bridge is known as Beggars Bridge built for the love of a young lady and social status is at the edge of a hidden village of Glaisdale in the heart of the Yorkshire Moors, in North Yorkshire. This wonderful little bridge over the River Esk is a delight to look at, but with the train bridge behind and newer road bridge running along side, it is really difficult bridge to photograph. With Limber Hill leading down into it, have the brakes serviced before visiting or take the train to the station just around the corner. Converted into black and white

  • Two young, and very choosy beggars I saw outside Powells’s Bookstore in Portland, Oregon. Transparent watercolor on Arches cold-pressed paper.
