Ladybeetle on a rose
I started this image layering 6 different pictures of clouds. I then made 5 variations of the car picture. Then they were all layered together and adjustments were made to contrast and lightness. Original photography by Tracy Bollinger.
Communion is a miniature painting of bugs or beetles by Karin Taylor…I am fascinated by domes and round objects and the way light hits them, where it hits, how it refracts, where the shadows fall….created on canvas textured paper / The original painting for this card was done on canvas textured paper using an array of media, including ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal.
Lady Beetles by Karin Taylor / Guache on Mat Board / from the Animal Stuff Series / The red beetles were one of my very first serious paintings…. / I did these quite a few years ago, and with a little help from photoshop, / they have been cropped and recoloured
Asian Lady Beetles dance around the heart of this orange dahlia generating some heat on a cool October evening in Duluth, Minnesota.
No, this is not a beetle I have called Rosemary, it is as in the herb. Strange, because when I find them, they are always on sage. They are about the size of a ladybird and close up this is a most attractive creature. They remind me of a regency dandy or my departed Gran’s old curtains. Photographed in my back garden, London. Technical Details: Camera: Nikon D3 / Lens: Macro f2.8 / Focal Length: 105mm / ISO: 400 / Exposure: 1/50 sec at f /32 / Post Processing: Photoshop CS3 © 2008 John Hooton Photography

The Egyptians were fascinated with the Scarab Beetle and its habit of rolling balls of dung across the ground. They likened this exercise to the propulsion of the sun on its circuit across the sky. Khepri is the sun god and creator in the form of a scarab. He was imagined to be created of his own accord rather than undergoing the natural cycle of reproduction, and he represented the initial spark of creation. Khepri was usually depicted as a dung beetle but he could also be portrayed as a hawk -winged beetle or as a man with the head of a scarab. Painting in mixed media / 100×42 cm Music – Egypt 4th October 2008

There’s a larger edited version of this; maybe I’ll upload it later. I’ve been wanting to get out and shoot some wonderful flower and bee/butterfly pix, but fate has left me at home. Today ended up being a picture-taking day so of course all I had with me was my tiny point-and-shoot Nikon….hah! But the beetle didn’t mind. As is, except for card-size cropping. /
