  • Benniworth Tunnel
    by compoundeye

    US$19.24–US$102.60

On a recent expedition, Magoo2 and I discovered this old rail tunnel in the Lincolnshire Wolds – which was no mean feat,- we had the nettle stings, mud scrapes and bruises [from being whacked by various tree branches during our ‘controlled descent’ of the overgrown gulley] to prove it! The tunnel seems to be Victorian, from the steeply vaulted roof, and is ‘faced and lined’ with higher grade materials [for show] at each end but bellies out to a larger bore built of red brick further in. There’s no trickery with this one, only ambient light and a ‘star effect’ courtesy of an f8 aperture.

  • Misty old beech-trees
    by jchanders

  • Going out on a foggy morning
    by jchanders

    US$5.13–US$136.80

No sun today, just fog. So a good chance to go out and try some nice fog shots with the help of the monopod. / Taken on the grounds of the country-house Einde Gooi near Hilversum/The Netherlands. Near Hilversum, 13th February 2008, 10.45 am / Nikon D 80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 60 mm / F 9, 1/15, ISO 200

  • Cradle Mountain in Colour
    by Neil Boucher

    US$5.70–US$152.00

I purposefully went to Cradle Mountain in Autumn to get the colours of the deciduous beech tree (northofagus gunnii. With the help of the morning light, I came away with this beautiful memory.

  • Weeping Beech~
    by Sassafras

    US$4.28–US$35.62

In a local park, this tree provides a little “room” which children( and big ones too!) find magical and safe. It is also a source of cool shade on a sultry summer day.

  • Bifurcated
    by Richard Ion

    US$3.42–US$91.20

Short break from Shetland (where trees are at a premium!) to venture into the very beautiful cemetery in Lancaster. Some superb trees and this one caught my eye with its split trunk towering into the dark blue sky. / Just added a slight diffuse glow in Photoshop to remove the ‘clinical’ sharpness and add a small element of ‘mystery’. Hope you like it – back to Shetland soon:-) / Thanks for looking, / Richard Tech Detls / Nikon D200 / Sigma 10-20mm @10mm / f16 1/20s / ISO200

  • Going to laneland again
    by jchanders

    US$5.13–US$136.80

Alas we did not get the mist this morning that I had hoped for yesterday evening, but the weather was good enough to take the bike and cycle to laneland again. Better than sitting at home in front of the computer. Even though the lanes are pretty bare here at the moment, they still show a specific colour spectrum which makes them attractive I find. The last brown leaves of the beech trees give an extra touch of colour. Taken near Maartensdijk/The Netherlands. I actually for the first time took my new monopod along and am very satisfied with the results. Near Maartensdijk, 7th February 2007, 10.55 am / Nikon D 80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 200 mm / F 10, 1/20, ISO 200

  • Walking down the forest aisle
    by jchanders

    US$5.13–US$136.80

A beech-tree lane on an early hazy morning, the high trees indeed forming a kind of aisle. Taken near Hilversum/The Netherlands. Near Hilversum, 4th June 2008, 7.36 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 112 mm / F 7, 1/15, ISO 800

  • This is especially for Byron. I had to zoom in to get this. There is still an awful lot more above this. , but this gives some idea. I hope to go there tomorrow and get your request haha. hugs / Those two little square green things, at the bottom of the pic, are bird houses they have fastened to the tree for the birds to nest in.

  • Electricity
    by Tony Fallon

    US$3.99–US$106.40

This was going to be called Electric Tunnel but a fondness for Captain Beefheart took over. Also a ghost appears in there who I can assure you is really alive and well. Even spoke to her tonight several weeks after the shot. So its my thanks to Karen for her love and inspiration. / Hope some of you rail enthusiasts appreciate the tag word “Dr Beeching”. Good Lord, this is no way to run a railway !!

  • What waits below...
    by compoundeye

    US$19.24–US$102.60

Further inside… No self respecting abandoned tunnel would be without an eerie dripping sound,- Benniworth even has stalactites. I wanted a slightly more abstract composition for this one, so decided to concentrate on the vaulted ceiling and exclude the ground altogether.

  • When I Look Up ......
    by Angela Harburn

    US$3.42–US$91.20

...... I Can See the Sky ! Bibby under the beech tree in the garden staring intently upwards – don’t know what had caught her eye – all we could see was the sky !!!

  • To Be Protected
    by Michael Kienhuis

    US$3.99–US$106.40

This is another special tree. Actually probably the most protected in John’s garden. It’s called a Weeping Beech. It twists all over the place as you can see, but it is one of the first trees to burst in spring in new growth, which means dinner time for possums. So it’s a constant battle to keep the possums off this tree so they don’t damage the branches. A rare and featured tree in ‘Holwells Garden’ In Korumburra. PS John hope i got the spelling correct!!

  • Most beech-tree lanes here in the area are straight, but some are carefully curved. This one was taken on the grounds of the country-house Einde Gooi near Hilversum/The Netherlands. Near Hilversum, 8th May 2008, 7.40 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 60 mm / F 5,6, 1/20, ISO 200

    Beech Tree, Perthshire, Scotland

  • Bliss
    by Steven McEwan

    US$3.42–US$91.20

Taken on my Honeymoon in the Maldives – Amazing!

  • Well, I shall tell you: Straight on is the best option. Because what follows is a wonderful roughly one-mile-long beech-tree lane. Praised be he who has got it planted more than 100 or even 150 years ago! Taken last year in the forests near Laage Vuursche in the Netherlands on an early June morning at 7.30 am.
