For those who despair at the ravages of bushfire on our glorious bush My good mate Darren Stones posted this thoughtful shot of Tambo Crossing / On this the 70th anniversary of the Hottest day on record and the biggest bushfires Victoria has ever seen …... / Look beyond the burnt out land to the hope in the mountains and the evidence of awesome resilience in the tree right before your very eyes! The bushfire season is upon us again Please be careful where you leave your rubbish …. glass acts like a magnifying glass & starts fires! & what you throw out your window … a lit cigarette butt one moment a raging all consuming uncontrollable bushfire the next! / One was even started by a man pulling off the road into long grass and the exhaust lit the grass and WOOF!!! half the high-plains went up! I pray the idiots don’t start them, nature has her own plan! / Chookas! X♥X OMG UPDATE: / This was written January 13th the 70th Anniversary of “Black Friday” 1939 – the worst bushfires in Victoria till that date – 71 died as the whole state from the SA border to the Gippsland / NSW border was ablaze with bushfire. / Ash Wednesday on 16th Feb 1983 killed 72 but 12 were firefighters that died trying to save a house in Beaconsfield – then an outer rural town now part of Melbourne’s urban area (just up the road from me!) I remember that fire and the fear we all had as Melbourne became cut off from the world by road rail & air leaving only ship evacuation as the fires ringed the city and threatened to close in! BUT Saturday 07-02-09 our north eastern hills exploded in a firestorm to rival all others. In a matter of hours over 180 people perished and towns were obliterated! / Before the month of February was over the fires had claimed 210 lives! / Thousands of homes completely gone! / The fires burned uncontrolled for a whole month / most of them deliberately lit This was the worst fire we have ever had …. / and hopefully we shall learn from it and never fall victim to it in such magnitude again! Phoenix Appeal because even if the fires are over they still cannot go home! ♥

I love Billy’s Work.. This photo in particular always seems to draw me back to it time and time again. I don’t seem to be able to break down in words via critique of my fascination for this piece. Leave it to Billy to shoot this not only for the contrasting elements but for the story that is presented here in one of his favorite towns called Algarve. / Thank you again Billy for the inspiring work you bring to my heart.
