  • This intimate, bright yet dark, static yet flowing, autumn themed image was made in Baxter State Park, Maine, USA in October 2006. I like the contrast of the flowing water beneath the still branches, the pop of color from the remaining birch leaves, and the juxtaposition of the branch atop the stream in tone and color! /

  • Solitude
    by TerriRiver

    US$31.35–US$167.20

The bridge reminds me of an emotion of solitude, which is not to be confused with loneliness. The former leads to an internal peace and being one with nature and oneself while the latter was a feeling of being forced to be alone, deprived of freedom and choice. I used to call this photo “Peaceful Bridge” until a young patient of mine (at the time she was nine years old) explored the difference between solitude and loneliness. When the image was presented to him as an illustration, he exclaimed, “Oh, solitude is peace, inner peace!” And the true title of the piece was born. • Masozi
    by Mundy Hackett

    US$5.10–US$102.03

The future of African predators is in peril. It is estimated that only 10,000-15,000 free-roaming African lions remain, down from 50,000 a decade ago. African lions are now listed as Endangered (West African subspecies) and Vulnerable (East and Southern African subspecies) by the World Conservation Union and are on Appendix II of the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) list. African lions are in danger of disappearing altogether due to disease (FIV, bovine tuberculosis, canine distemper) and habitat encroachment. Today’s modern world subjects lions and other wildlife to many dangers. Mankind constantly seizes more and more of the remaining wild areas of Africa, forcing lions onto smaller and smaller parcels of land. Large-scale developments destroy the lion’s natural habitat. In areas inhabited by livestock, lions are frequently shot, snared or poisoned. And sadly, the hunting of these amazing animals for “sport,” for man’s pleasure, is still encouraged as a revenue producing industry by many African governments. African predators simply will not survive unless they are protected. 100% of proceeds from any sales of this image will be donated to the Virginia Zoo

  • The doe took a little time off from busy eating for the photo opportunity, although she didn’t want to give up the tasty colorful leaf. By now everyone who has ever seen my work knows that I’m absolutely “addicted” to develop a deep relationship and establish an intimate communication with mule deer (we don’t have a lot of white-tailed deer around here). Everyday I go out there in the early mornings, hoping to have a close encounter! :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada

The Gyoto Monks of Tibet are an often seen sight at many cultural events in the Byron Bay region. Seen here laughing, this particular monk escaped Tibet into India 50 years ago with His Holiness, The Dali Lama. His trademark expression and enjoying tea and biscuit, the joke is enjoyed by all at the table.

  • This is a composite of my images of Ka’ikena O’Iao Valley, West Maui, Hawai’i. © 2007 Sharon A Coultrap ~ Mahalo! ~ EARTH VOICES by: Bliss Carman (1861-1929) / “I heard the spring wind whisper / Above the brushwood fire, / The world is made forever / Of transport and desire. / “I am the breath of being, / The primal urge of things; / I am the whirl of star dust, / I am the lift of wings. / I am the splendid impulse / That comes before the thought, / The joy and exaltation / Wherein the life is caught. / Across the sleeping furrows I call the buried seed, / And blade and bud and blossom / Awaken at my need. / Within the dying ashes I blow the sacred spark, / And make the hearts of lovers / To leap against the dark. / I heard the spring light whisper / Above the dancing stream, / The world is made forever / In likeness of a dream. / I am the law of planets, / I am the guide of man / The evening and the morning are fashioned to my plan. / I tint the dawn with crimson, / I tinge the sea with blue / My track is in the desert, / My trail is in the dew. / I paint the hills with colour, / And in my magic dome / I light the star of evening to steer the traveller home. / Within the house of being, / I feed the lamp of truth / With tales of ancient wisdom and prophecies of youth. / I heard the spring rain murmur / Above the roadside flower, / The world is made forever / In melody and power. / I keep the rhythmic measure that marks the steps of time, / And all my toil is fashioned / To symmetry and rhyme. / I plow the untilled upland, / I ripe the seeding grass, / And fill the leafy forest with music as I pass. / I hew the raw, rough granite / To loveliness of line, / And when my work is finished, / Behold, it is divine! / I am the master-builder In whom the ages trust. / I lift the lost perfection to blossom from the dust. / Then Earth to them made answer, / As with a slow refrain / Born of the blended voices / Of wind and sun and rain, / This is the law of being / That links the threefold chain: / The life we give to beauty / Returns to us again.”
