A February storm unleashes its power in the beauty of non-stop lightning over Spencer Gulf in South Australia. This 15 second exposure shows just a small sample of a spectacular night’s viewing. The tiny lit chimney, that you can see on the left (which belongs to the lead smelter in Port Pirie), is actually 205 metres in height, which gives perspective to this, the power of natures finest glory.

I was driving along a road in a seaside town at Jervis Bay National Park, just 2.5 hours south of Sydney Australia when I glimpsed this moon through some trees with a pathway of silver light across the water. A lucky moment, in that all the elements were there but tricky in putting them together because it was so dark I couldn’t see anything through the viewfinder and had to keep taking pics, viewing them on the LCD display and then moving the tripod to get the composition I wanted. / It looks to me like the trees on either side of the moon are partners about to dance onto the floor of some enchanted ballroom. Fridays are “family night” and generally the kids play outside but it was raining so my niece was watching the rain fall. I said her name and when she looked I took this photo. So that’s the story behind the title. :)

What do you call the light that permanently imprints itself into the deepest corner of your cerebral real estate? Just a memorable one, divine, sublime? The star was going down fast, as it was just a matter of ‘to get it over and done with‘ a daily sunset routine – until that moment. Like it was switched on by some all powerful hand residing somewhere in the center of a kingdom of light, the sunbeam reached across the valley, bringing all the associated attributes with it, like joy and warmth, just for a few moments, before disappearing altogether. The blue cold haze drowned the beautiful Hawkes Bay valley, but not before the last ray of sun got there first. I was standing in awe … for a while in fact, still in disbelief. Review button and LCD screen confirmed it did happen. Sweet. I’ll treasure selfishly the melody of breeze passing through the treetops, the smell of golden grass and feel of fallen leafs under my feet. Not to worry, I left something to share with you. Here it is.

There had been fires up there a year before. its why the trees look this way, I found it interesting and started to take the trees against that sky.

The grand staircase, this time shot with only available light/mirk for a more unsettling ‘Silent Hill’ look. Just a little light tone mapping to avoid burn-out and retain shadow detail, otherwise this is all natural – including the small scrap of very blue wallpaper in the bottom left.

Age 22. 2009. To some, the boy knew, it may have been a small departure from a lovable feline, but to him, Morris’ death was heartbreaking. There had been many times in the past where the boy had hurried home and hid away in his bedroom, hoping desperately to be forgotten by the world. He had wept in the isolated darkness, crying out his pain, yet Morris had always comforted him; lying there lovingly without judgmental eyes. Morris was always there offering his console by silently listening to every last word. With a tear in his eye the boy could remember what it felt like to cradle his arms around the little one, feeling his cushion-like fur on his skin. The boy knew he would one day be with him again, but for now, he could only hope he would see him in his dreams - Drawn on white bristol board. 2H, 3B pencil, biro pen, water colours and digital paint. 3200 ISO is a brave new world for me. As a self confessed low ISO junkie, one who used Ektar 25 film whenever and wherever he could for many years because I wanted tight grain, the tighter the better, I would pull out all the stops I could to use that amazing ISO 25 film! For sure I’d never gone above ISO 1000 and then only to shoot indoor sporting events. Low ISO was(?) a hang-up for me! But I wanted to try astral photography and high ISO can get you there! However as we all know high ISO leads to increased noise which is something fairly new to me. You can use software and Photoshop plugins but I’ve been considering, one way to control noise would be to minimize or eliminate it by keeping the ISO as low as possible and that’s one way I‘m leaning. So in that regard it looks like a fast 50 prime is in order! It’s fun to be experimenting and learning, eh! / In my goal to portray women in all guises and emotions, here is the latetst addition to the collection..”The Temptation”....we all know what the feeling…temptation comes in many disguises…is she the temptress, or has she been tempted?make of her what you will… / When I was halfway through painting it, I remembered a picture I had seen in a magazine advertising lipstick….the model had her fingers on the open lips…. I thought they would be a perfect addititon to the painting, but I needed to see them again, just to be sure…. I frantically dug through my recycling bin (luckily we are having a garbage strike and everthing is still here) and found the picture…..the fingers were just what I needed…it was apparent that the picture had been buried in my subconscious, just waiting to emerge in this painting….I made the modifications to the image and here it is Acrylic and watercolour on Fabriano Paper.. 613 views…33 Favouritings.. Rota Island – August 2009 / straight out of the camera / Life on this island is friendly and unhurried and the hospitality is as unforgettable as the magical sunsets. Rota Island is a natural playground with around 3000 inhabitants and is known by many to be Micronesia’s best-kept secret / Rota (Chamoru: Luta) also known as the “peaceful island”, is the southernmost island of the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and the second southernmost of the Marianas Archipelago. It lies approximately 40 miles north-northeast of the United States territory of Guam. Songsong village is the largest and most populated followed by Sinapalo village (Sinapalu). In 1521, the first European to see Rota, was the lookout on Magellan’s ship Victoria, Lope Navarro. However, Magellan’s Armada of three ships didn’t stop until they reached Guam, so the first European to arrive in Rota (in 1524), was Spanish navigator Juan Sebastian Elcano, who annexed it together with the rest of the Marianas Archipelago on behalf of the Crown of Spain.
