Philip Johnson# / shows a picture of stone stairs, at The Rocks, under the title: If these steps could talk, what stories they could tell ! / / That reminded me of one of the two books that I enjoyed most, sharing with my pupils, at my last school / There was Bridge to Terebithia and there was: Playing Beatie Bow, by Ruth Parks. / / Please check out Wikipedia for a summary of this novel for children which, like Bridge to Terebithia is about coming of age, adolesence, etc., and , to me, seemed just the right kind of book to share with children, in the very last stage of primary education, having done it all and ready to tackle the teenage years, and secondary school. / / When I was reading the book, with my 6th grades, there were walking tours available, at The Rocks, on Sydney Harbour, associated with this story by Ruth Park. / / Just like Bridge to Terebithia, there were comments about how this should be left until Year 8, the second year of High School but I believe that these children were ready to get an initial introduction to these books. / / After all, I had Alleen op de Wereld (Sans Famille) read to me several times as I was growing up and possibly considered far to young….....but….....here it comes..... It never did me any harm and I treasure that book! / / ( I am putting this in the Bridges Group that I look after. The main character in this story, finds a bridge between the present and the past.)
