So when a friend suggested I should grow a goatie, I thought I’d give it a go. Four days later and it’s exceeded all my wildest expectations. Grass. Why do I suddenly crave grass? sigh
Oil on Canvas, Detail of larger portrait portrait / American Poet 1807 – 1882. / A man of great ferocious tempo and histories. Still one of the most popular of our poets: Hiawatha, The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere, etc. / Henry Longfellow lived almost fifty years of his life while Queen Victoria ruled Britain from 1837 – 1901. There may have been some concentrated American effort to stand apart by lauding our pioneers and savage North America, and it sure wasn’t thwarted by being politically correct. Imagine while high tea was being mimicked on Park Avenue, this famous yankee poet had the courage to come up with the swashbuckling but doomed fantasy (loosely based on history c.1400) that started on the shores of Gitche Gumee, progressed to Daughter of the Moon Nokomis and right up and into the shining Big Sea Water! It was an instant & roaring success. Enough feathers were ruffled to make parodies galore, but it’s 125 years later and I’m not the only one who still remembers Longfellow’s words and wants a feather in my braid. The story teller poets were marvelous conjurers, Longfellow one of the best. / I met Nokomis when I was about seven years old and longed to make that birch bark canoe, moonlight, and woody adventureland my own. And Longfellow’s incredible epic of courage, mysticism, language, wildlife, and natives on these shores remain about one of the greatest tributes to Indian nations ever composed by anybody. 11” x 8.5” graphite pencil drawing on paper. Mike is a friend and singer to a rock group who jumped at the chance to let me draw him for my first book on Pencil drawings, which is available in casewrap (hardback) or paperback at http://stores.lulu.com/paper2pencil NOTE: This drawing was one of four published in a new independent art magazine called Project Exposure
The compression of the image for preview that makes redbubble is very bad and the colors are never real. Here I leave for you the real color palette, as will be printed on your shirt.

We have bearded Iris in our garden (Kelberg, Germany) for the first time this year. Of course, as soon as the first blossoms opened, they had to be inspected at great length and in great detail. And how better to do that than with a macro? Two thing intrigue me here – for one, the “beard” reminds me of flowing, swishy thingies under water (please excuse my scientific English) and that glittering, pearlescence, not only in the petal but also in the beard – which I demonstrate in greater detail in Tentacles of Iris – the intimate view Taken with my Pentax K20d and seen through Irish Eyes ;o) Untouched.

I did sharpen this up a bit with Adobe Elements. I think this is really magical! Taken with my Pentax K20d and seen through Irish Eyes ;o)

The bearded fireworm, Hermodice carunculata (Pallas, 1766), is a type of bristleworm of the fireworm Family Amphinomidae. This beautiful flattened segmented worm, reaching 35.6 cm (typically 7-10 cm) in length, has groups of white bristles along each side. The bristles are hollow, venom-filled setae which easily penetrate the flesh and break off if this worm is handled. They produce an intense irritation in the area of contact, hence the common name of the species. When disturbed the worm flares out the bristles so they are more exposed. / Canon G9 / Inon Dome lens / f/8 / 1/60 / iso 100 / Featured in Top Shelf Wildlife & Nature Art December 2009

from my yard .. i love to take shots of this amazing survivor plant . this is on my oak tree .. this shot is an as is image due to the effects of the suns work amidst the limbs / Here is a shot I took a few ago, that has become one of my favorites due to the comments left with it :) also known as :spanish moss: / Due to its propensity for growing in humid southern locales like Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, Eastern North Carolina, southeastern Virginia, South Carolina, Texas, and Alabama, the plant is often associated with Southern Gothic imagery. In the southeastern United States, the following tale is told: “As the story goes; there was once a traveler who came with his Spanish fiancée in the 1700s to start a plantation near the city of Charleston SC. She was a beautiful bride-to-be with long flowing raven hair. As the couple was walking over the plantation sight[sic] near the forest, and making plans for their future, they were suddenly attacked by a band of Cherokee who were not happy to share the land of their forefathers with strangers. As a final warning to stay away from the Cherokee nation, they cut off the long dark hair of the bride-to-be and threw it up in an old live oak tree. As the people came back day after day and week after week, they began to notice the hair had shriveled and turned grey and had begun spreading from tree to tree. Over the years the moss spread from South Carolina to Georgia and Florida. To this day, if one stands under a live oak tree, one will see the moss jump from tree to tree and defend itself with a large army of beetles.” In Hawaii, Spanish moss is typically referred to as ʻUmiʻumi-o-Dole, named for Governor Sanford B. Dole’s beard. It was introduced to Hawaii in the 1800s, and became a popular ornamental and lei plant. Recently it is occasionally called “Pele’s hair” after Pele the Hawaiian goddess. The term “Pele’s hair” usually refers to a type of filamentous volcanic glass. Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot wrote a ballad entitled “Spanish Moss”. informations source:Wikipedia”
