I thought this might inspire some Valentine kisses. / This would make a cool Valentine, too, huh? LOL :)
When we visited a Masai village in Kenya this little boy thought Martin’s beard was wonderful. Masai men aren’t very hairy, you see…
Old, bearded man looks directly into the viewers soul.
That would be good… / ... if everyone could live in human circumstances.

Today we visited the Medieval Festival held at Gumeracha, in the Adelaide Hills. There were so many interesting people there, including this man, Keith, who makes silver jewelry and replica artifacts from the past. His particular love is viking history. He was dressed in period costume and his hair and beard were perfect – in fact he could have stepped out of a previous time. He was interesting to talk with, and kind enough to pose for me. I have layered his portrait with some textures to bring out the depth of the character in his wonderful face. Oh, and that is a great walking staff he is holding – a great weapon for defending yourself, if you have to! Canon 40D, Sigma 18-200 / various textures added in photoshop. This image featured in the group South Australian Artists in May 2009. Thanks so much! And featured in the group The Adelaide Hills in May 2009, thanks so much! Today was the Torremendo, (Spain) Annual Fiesta, celebrating their Saints day, where 2 Oxen pull a cart carrrying a statue of Jesus around the town and horse riders and pedestrians proceed and follow. Last year I rode, but decided I would snap some photos this time. This elderly man had a wonderful character visage, so I plucked up the courage to snap a shot! He was just a follower. The day was blazing hot, so he must have been melting in his coat and hat. This is the first time I have managed to capture an older person to apply this effect to and I am quite pleased with the result! I have removed the background as it was full of people and was messy. / 2 hours worth of editing in PSP, including manually adding the Dragan effect! / Nikon D40 18-55mm / Started photography May 2008

This is a portrait I painted recently in Acrylics. I am currently working on a series of portraits for an exhibition here in Bristol next year (2010). My theme is based on the diversity of cultures expressed through the local people found in Native North and South America, Africa, The Middle East and Asia. This painting was just a practice run before I start working on the larger scale work for the exhibition. It took me between 30 & 40 hours to get it to this stage. Although I scanned it in at 1200 dpi, the colours have all come out a bit wrong. It’s a bit over exposed (the whites aren’t that white), and the colours are a lot more vibrant in real life. This guy is a wiseman from India, and you pronounce the name ‘Sardoo’, I think.
My photograph with some touches of digital painting applied to accentuate the extended petals & Bud… Common facts: / The genus is widely distributed throughout the north temperate zone. Their habitats are considerably varied, ranging from cold and montane regions to the grassy slopes, meadowlands and riverbanks of Europe, the Middle East and northern Africa, Asia and across North America. Irises are perennial herbs, growing from creeping rhizomes (rhizomatous irises), or, in drier climates, from bulbs (bulbous irises). They have long, erect flowering stems, which may be simple or branched, solid or hollow, and flattened or have a circular cross-section. The rhizomatous species usually have 3–10 basal, sword-shaped leaves growing in dense clumps. The bulbous species have cylindrical, basal leaves. Nikon D60~ 18/55 / My garden-North Eastern Ct.
