Every now and then when I feel a bit stuck for good single shot inspiration, I like to create something odd. This image was the result of one such time…
I took this photograph whilst on a morning beach walk in central Qld in 2007. I feel this photo is symbolic to many who struggle with illness in life – The beam of light resembling a ray of hope. I’d think that it would be pretty rare for anyone viewing this to not have a family member or friend or perhaps even themselves battling or battled cancer…The Anti cancer council does an amazing job and it is this organisation that I would gladly donate any profits made from this photograph to. I urge anyone effected to find some time to donate to the Anti cancer council / / / Canon EOS A2, Velvia 50. / ©T.Middleton2008 / / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—— / OR buy a card and I’ll do the donation /
Canon 20D – 17-40mm L – 17mm – 1s – f/11 Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon formed over the course of millions of years by erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to wind erosion. Rainwater (especially during monsoon season) runs into the wash that Antelope Canyon is part of, picking up speed and sand as it rushes through the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors wider and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock. Upper Antelope Canyon, called Tse bighanilini, “the place where water runs through rocks” by the Navajo, is the most frequently visited by tourists, due to two considerations. First, its entrance and entire length are at ground level, requiring no climbing. Second, beams (shafts of direct sunlight radiating down from openings in the top of the canyon) are much more common in Upper than in Lower. Beams occur most often in the summer months, as they require the sun to be high in the sky. / In the same series: / / / This image has sold 12 times, including multiple Framed Prints, to some unknown buyers from RedBubble.
These abandoned movie or theater seats were sitting inside an old barn in town. Those are rays of sunlight poking thru the barnyard walls !
A dark cave, a small opening letting in a beam of sunlight that hits the blue, blue water which fills the largest part of the cave. The perfect occasion for a colorful abstract. You can find this image as a wallpaper on my wallpaper website
I managed to crawl thru a small opening in this abandoned barn, and was lucky enough to capture this view !!

Light spills through and around the limbs and leaves of a large gum tree in as the sun rises through a morning mist in the Adeliade Hills of Australia.
Capt. John Davis and Bombardier Lt. Carl Thompson are walking passed their bird to meet the rest of the boys for a few beers. Both can faintly hear music and laughter of men spilling from a tent near the end of the runway. Davis looks back into the setting sun, listens to the big radial engines still ticking from an earlier test flight. The distinct smell of burnt oil still lingers in the air. / “God I love that smell” he thinks to himself. / He gazes down upon the puddles of oil underneath the port and starboard engines. / “Hey, does it look like engine one is leaking more than usual?” John asks, turning to Carl who had his half smoked cigarette in the corner of his mouth. / “It’s been leaking more since Frankfurt”, Carl replies. / “Frankfurt? Yeah, I think you’re right”. Davis can still hear the screams of the waistgunner, when the shrapnel tore through the entire port side. / “Poor Sammy, he never had a chance”, Davis says. / Carl didn’t reply, just walked quietly next to John, the setting sun throwing long shadows onto the tarmac, making them both look like giants. / Both men knew that tonight they indeed feel larger than life, because there is no mission tonight. I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “ Whom shall I send, / And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” / Isaiah 6:8 To me this means about dying to self so God can send you out into the world and show the world how much Jesus loves others. This is the great send off! I love my walks in the woods … and I do come past this particular spot fairly frequently … never does the light seem quite right for a shot with character and personality …. you know the kind of shot I mean – one that “says” something!! Beverley Minster, East Yorkshire, UK. Beverley Minster, in Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire is a parish church in the Church of England. It is generally regarded as the most impressive (architecturally speaking) church in England that is not a cathedral. / Originally a collegiate church, it was not selected as a bishop’s seat during the Dissolution of the Monasteries; nevertheless it survived as a parish church, and the chapter house was the only major part of the building to be lost. It is part of the Greater Churches Group and a Grade 1 Listed building. / The Minster owes its origin and much of its subsequent importance to St John of Beverley, who founded a monastery locally around 700 AD and whose bones still lie beneath a plaque in the nave. The institution grew after his death and underwent several rebuildings. After a serious fire in 1188, the subsequent reconstruction was overambitious; the newly heightened central tower collapsed c. 1213 bringing down much of the surrounding church. Work on the present structure began around 1220. ~ Wikipedia Samsung GX20, Tamron 24-105mm lens @ f22.
