A shot of pelicans lining up to be fed / The Entrance on NSW’s Central Coast Australia
The beautiful colours of a peacock.
The hazy morning light through the humid Hong Kong air warmed and illuminated these Flamingos in Kowloon Park. / / While photographing these magnificent birds I was able to observe some of their social behavior. While they may look like graceful creatures they have definite social standings and spend a lot of their time squabbling amongst themselves over nothing. Pretty much like people really.

The Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a medium to large bird of prey, whose range covers most of Europe and extends into Asia. It is typically between 51-57 cm in length with a 110 to 130 cm (48-60 inch) wingspan, making it a medium-sized raptor. There are around 40,000 breeding pairs in Britain. Pairs mate for life. To attract a mate (or impress his existing mate) the male performs a ritual aerial display before the beginning of Spring. This spectacular display is known as ‘the roller coaster’. He will rise high up in the sky, to turn and plummet downward, in a spiral, twisting and turning as he comes down. To then rise immediately upward to repeat the exercise. This broad-winged raptor has a wide variety of plumages, and in Europe can be confused with the similar Rough-legged Buzzard (Buteo lagopus) and the only distantly related Honey Buzzard (Pernis apivorus), which mimics the Common Buzzard’s plumage for a degree of protection from Goshawks. The plumage can vary in Britain from almost pure white to black, but is usually shades of brown, with a pale ‘necklace’ of feathers. Beautiful Barking Owl Portrait, love the brilliant eyes these birds have! This species hunts at dusk and dawn, as it can see very well in the low light. Feeds on most small animals, including mice, rats, and small possums. Canon 50D 300mm, Australia Zoo. Available Large, and best viewed Large :)
Came across this aggressive bird. Not sure why he had his feathers in a knot, but it made for a great shot! The Eagle Owl is a large and powerful bird, smaller than the Golden Eagle but larger than the Snowy Owl. It has a wingspan of up to 138-200 cm (55-79 in) and measures 58-75 cm (23-30 in) long. Females weigh 1.75-4.2 kg (3.9-9.4 lbs) and males weigh 1.5-3.2 kg (3.3-7 lbs). In comparison, the common Barn Owl weighs about 500 grams (1.1 lbs). It mainly feeds on small mammals, but can kill prey up to the size of foxes and young deer (up to 10 kg/22 lb), if taken by surprise. Larger prey (over 3 kg/7 lb) is consumed on the ground which leaves the bird vulnerable (for example to foxes).
Tawny Frogmouth in it’s pitch black setting, are very effective hunters. These are near impossible to see even in the daylight with their bark like feathers.. Canon 50D, 400mm. Sydney Wildlife World, Darling Harbour.
