This composite image has, as a background, the coastline of Hana, Maui, an area known mostly to locals as Red Sand Beach Cove, at sunrise. The Statue of Dionysus is from the British Museum and was originally from the east pediment of the Parthenon. The same day I actually saw and got to phototgraph the statue in London, I had a dream about it, which I don’t recall at all, except it was something about Hawaii and the Dionysus figure. Perhaps it was something like this…

A lofty wet darkness / Above western seas / Invading blue’s starkness / By strong ocean breeze / / Sparkles that now dance / Where sky meets the sea / Take their last prance / Before they all flee / / Then partners of rain drops / Will claim that dance floor / And the echo of flip-flops / Will be gone from the shore / / This photo was taken about twenty miles north of Florence, Oregon. It shows a weather phenomenon, known commonly as the ‘Pineapple Express’, where heavy precipitation is carried across the Pacific in a fast moving system from the Hawaiian islands region to the Pacific Northwest. / / This photo is a very good example of that phenomenon, with clear skies over the coast to the east, while the heavy clouds over the ocean move in from the southwest. I love the multitude of different hues that dance across the water, and the contrast between the clear blue sky and the dark clouds beside it. / /
