Not often do you get a stretch of beach almost to yourself between Nth Burleigh and Surfers on Sunday, I was hoping for a chance to chase a storm but caught the side of it as it bypassed the Gold Coast and hit Brisbane(worst storm in 25yrs). Q1 was being struck repetitively, I just need to find a spot and shelter from the weather, next time.

The traditional seaside showing of Punch & Judy waits for its next audience. The sun was shining behind me, with dark rainclouds to the front of me. Over-use of ND filters has enhanced the clouds. The clouds eventually left and I didn’t get wet, it was actually very hot! Weymouth, UK.

Recently our family took a lovely holiday to Northumberland, visiting the beautiful Cocklawburn beach near Berwick-upon-Tweed, England. The weather was dull and overcast, as well as cold and windy, but that is why I love the autumnal season at the seaside. The shores take on a whole other character, and the weather helps to create a somber and mysterious mood. We came down to this beach after spending a morning at a family activity centre and cafe. We a walk along the beach, as we braved the elements. The wind was blowing furiously, creating mini sand storms along the spars terrain. I meandered along the jagged rocks that are set in the ground there and managed a few shots to capture the mood of the sky and the dramatics of the weather. I have since learned that it is believed to be a haunted beach, with mysterious figures appearing every so often. I’m not sure that I am convinced of that, but you certainly get an idea of it when you are there on days like this. This is a HDR image combining 4 bracketed shots using Photomatix Pro for Macs. Very slight adjustments in lighting and contrast were made using the enhanced details tool. Canon EOS-1Ds Mark ll / 28-300mm IS zoom lens / f/14 / 1/8, 1/25, 1/50, 1/80 / ISO 125
