‘Asian Series’ card by Karin Taylor Catch of the Day is a sweet little painting done in mixed media…using ink, acrylic, charcoal and pastels. I had so much fun creating this little character, and dressing her in a fur coat and beanie. She is being drawn along by her dolphin friend and a butterfly has thought to come visit too. Catch of the Day was inspired by a children’s book I used to read to my children when they were little, my brother gave it them. It’s a great story called ‘The Hottest Boy Who Ever Lived’ the illustrations by Kim Gamble I think are awesome. The little girl is very much like me, she loves to fish with a bamboo fishing pole, wriggly worm attached! I also love to fish out in the open ocean with my pa.. hence it also has a smidge of sentimental value.

I took the boys to Redhead Beach today. We’ve had some beautiful weather of late..but naturally, the easter long weekend is approaching and so are the storm clouds…anyway, that did not deter them from enjoying their time in the sand. Hope you enjoy. !:http://www.redbubble.com/people/florentinepogen/art/890310-1-wait-for-me

/ Calypso’s Quest by Karin Taylor / from the Beach Stuff Series / this is mixed media collaged piece / i have used acrylics and guache, watercolours, cut out paper / to form the sails and the hull This song is about the ship Calypso, which was bought by Jacques-Yves Cousteau and converted to an oceanographic ship. Cousteau wanted to understand “The silent world” better, in order to protect it. “To live on the land we must learn from the sea” – Cousteau was the first to do research on pollution and its effects on the sea and received many honors for his accomplishments. John Denver cared deeply about nature and this song was a tribute to both Calypso and her captain and their valuable work. (thanks, Marthe – Amsterdam, Netherlands) Calypso” Lyrics / To sail on a dream, on a crystal clear ocean, / To ride on the crest of a wild raging storm; / To work in the service of life and the living / In search of the answers to questions unknown; / To be part of the movement and part of the growing, / Part of beginning to understand . . . Aye, Calypso, the places you’ve been to, / The things that you’ve shown us, / The stories you tell; / Aye, Calypso, I sing to your spirit, / The men who have served you / So long and so well. Like the dolphin who guides you, / You bring us beside you / To light up the darkness and show us the way; / For, though we are strangers in your silent world, / To live on the land we must learn from the sea; / To be true as the tide and free as the wind-swell, / Joyful and loving in letting it be . . . / John Denver / Album: Windsong

This was taken today and it’s what I call my simple pleasures… Either lying on the beach on a day like today watching the sail boats go by or lying on that sailing boat watching a beautiful day pass by….

This shot was taken from the Destin Harbor – Destin, FL. The sunset cruises were coming in for the evening. This is one of the sunset cruises that I caught coming back into the harbor. During post processing in Photoshop I added a larger than life moon via the Lunar Cell filter. It seemed like it added a mysterious beckoning element to the photo. Enjoy. / / Click on the buy/preview button to see the many RedBubble print options for this photo.
