I believe this was my first early wake up to go out and shoot a sunrise seascape. Only a couple of weeks back we were at Narrabeen with friends. It was a late afternoon and I just could not believe the colour. I was determined to come back with my camera. That particular morning was just magic. A planned get-together with a mate fell through. So instead my son and I went to North Narrabeen beach and took advantage of some magical light and conditions to capture the coast during winter time. / For a very long time this image was my favourite. I was just amazed at how much light was absorbed by the wooden planks, contrast that with the smooth silky water. I bought some Singh Ray filters mid November. I did not get a chance to try them out until after Xmas – says a lot about the mad rush leading up to this period of the year. After using them I am in awe as to how effective they are. I often get questions about the pump house and the diving blocks at Merewether Beach so I found out a bit of info….. 1935 / At a cost of 2,600 pounds, Merewether Ocean Baths, acclaimed as the ‘largest of their kind in the State’ opened as part of the Merewether Golden Jubilee celebrations in November. There was a procession in fancy dress from the Council chambers to the baths. Considered ‘the greatest advertisement for Merewether as a residential suburb’, the new baths had been built further seaward and a little to the south of the older Merewether baths on the same rock platform. At 110 yards by 90 yards, they were ‘big enough to hold the larger swimming events’ and separated into a main pool and a children’s pool by a wide promenade. The main pool nearest the sea was 110 yards long and 55 yards wide, while the shore portion was 110 yards long and 35 yards wide. The 3,500 pounds for relief work on the baths had been paid by the NSW government. Excavation of the baths promised to yield 6,000 to 7,000 cubic yards of stone valued at 2,500 pounds. Merewether Council was seeking a further government loan to cover the construction of dressing-sheds at the baths. The new baths became central to the life of the community and prompted more people from the Lower Hunter district to visit Merewether. She generously shares much information about how she gets such remarkable images, like this for example / I finally bought some NDgrad filters and this and my next image are my first attempts to use them to capture the movement of the ocean, I have much to learn. Thanks for the inspiration and advice Mel. Canon 450D ISO100 F5.6 6/10s f18mm (Cokin 121s ND Grad)

She generously shares much information about how she gets such remarkable images, like this for example / I finally bought some NDgrad filters and this and my previous image are my first attempts to use them to capture the movement of the ocean, I have much to learn. Thanks for the inspiration and advice Mel. I processed this using a script-fu plug-in for Gimp which attempts to mimic the Fuji Velvia slide film that I used to love so much in the days before digital. Canon 450D ISO100 F5.6 1s f18mm (Cokin 121s ND Grad)

It lies approximately 40 miles north-northeast of the United States territory of Guam. Songsong village is the largest and most populated followed by Sinapalo village (Sinapalu). In 1521, the first European to see Rota, was the lookout on Magellan’s ship Victoria, Lope Navarro. However, Magellan’s Armada of three ships didn’t stop until they reached Guam, so the first European to arrive in Rota (in 1524), was Spanish navigator Juan Sebastian Elcano, who annexed it together with the rest of the Marianas Archipelago on behalf of the Crown of Spain.
