‘Iliki’ Spirit of Aloha is a mixed media production on canvas textured paper using ink, pastel, acrylic and charcoal. My darling ‘Illiki’ was inspired by James Michener’s novel ‘Hawaii’ and the beautiful young hawaiian girl who is one of the charming characters early on in the story. I was completely swept away during the reading of this incredible novel, highly recommended reading :D I think that the song Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo’Ole really relates to the story …. as his melancholy voice is so melodically accompanied by the ukelele….. it reminds me of the story of Iliki the young hawaiian girl, who leaves her island when still very young…. forever she haunted the mind of the young minister missionary who tended her and taught her in his first days on the island, he forever wondered how she was faring in the civilised world, having been taken away on a ship by the white men. He felt a certain special kind of fatherly love for this girl, and it tore his heart that she was so clever and cottoned on so well to the new english language, and customs he would teach her, as well as the scriptures…but she was a wild thing, and never one to be ‘pigeon-holed’ or contained… he set her free and never saw her again. At glance it may be missed…but with a keener eye patterns emerge..sometimes contoured, other times smooth. As dawn breaks on a low tide revealing an incredible array of tidal sand patterns. The day summer arrived and it got stinking hot. This shot was taken at 5am and not a cloud in sight. The days temperature climbed up to 40.2°C in Brisbane. Summer is over is just over a week. This morning was certainly what I would expect in winter, crisp, vibrant and cloudless. Keep it coming…love it

Natural sand pattern left by receding wave on a steep sloping beach. Five Mile Beach, Wilsons Promontory National Park, Victoria, Australia. Contrast enhancement only. Resemblance to a primordial forest with primitive type trees is fascinating. Patterns are renewed with each incoming wave and tricky to capture at the best moment before the next wave wipes it over and drains out again. Each ‘picture’ only lasts a few seconds. I would describe it as having strong design aspects. Matryoshka on Hols was born from my passion for vintage wooden dolls…I thought how cute it would be to dress her in some holiday gear, especially since Russia is usually a very cold place from what I hear…it’s nice to give her a break in a nice warm sunny climate such as Australia :D and and I’ve taken the liberty of giving her a bit of gypsy flair! Maybe she’ll like Australia and decide to stay here? / Maybe she’ll like wearing this bikini and buy some more in different colours? / Maybe she’ll pop up again somewhere when you least expect it, in a vivid array of daring colours! / or…maybe she’ll go home to Russia and we’ll see her in some traditional dress sometime? We’ll just have to wait n see! She could pop up anywhere, any time hehe

Someone told me there is this great little place called Red Rock just north of Coffs Harbour. I was determined to visit while on holidays there. I think I got there just a little late. Managed to get this before the sun disappeared all too quickly….
