  • This photograph is a sunrise shot taken at Halona Cove on O’ahu’s eastern shore. The sun appeared to be rising straight out of Haleakala or “House of the Sun” on Maui. Halona Cove is also known as “From Here to Eternity” Beach. This is the location where Deborah Kerr and Burt Lancaster embraced in the surf in a memorable, steamy scene from the movie of that title. Canon 30D, EF 18-55 lens, polarizer.

  • Her name is Avis. She came to me in my portrait studio one day when I was set up on O’ahu. Her face was captivating! This image has been on several magazine covers already. My original shot was on Kodak TMX; hand printed; sepia-toned; and hand-colored.

  • It was a very stormy, windy, and generally un-photographable week in Hawaii last week. I was stuck on O’ahu because my ferry was canceled due to high seas. So I went “fishing” – so to speak. I took off in my car for 3 days straight, looking for a spot of sun, less wind, and good scenery. I caught the fish as I was driving into Kane’ohe. The sky cleared behind me, and I did a quick u-turn as the sun was quickly disappearing. I bailed out ov my van, and literally ran across the a tall-grass field, in desperation, to the edge of the water This image is a series of 16 shots on my little Canon Rebel XTi, using a very salt-coated lens. Thanks to the computer age, I saved the shot and made it all come together into what is a great “catch”.

  • As Is Another beautiful sunrise on the Lanikai Beach, Oahu Canon 40D

  • This is the Lanikai beach on the windward side of Oahu. It is a favorite for advertisers, graphic artists, professional photographers and artists. You have undoubtedly seen this beach along with its two off shore islands called the Mokuluas in a catalogue, on the Internet, in an advertisement or other publication. Almost every day there is some sort acitivity there. A photo shoot, a wedding, a canoe race, a group of locals launching their outriggers. or a para sailer landing on the sands. The color of the water and the sky and beach are so beautiful it is easy to understand its popularity. Best of all…no hotels, motels, or other distractions although there are private houses set back from the beach. If you can’t visit, watch for its image in a magazine or website. Canon 40D

  • During this past week, unimaginable waves came crashing into the north shores of the Hawaiian islands. The surf was windy, and messy, and disorganized—not ridable for the great watermen of Hawaii. I happened to be in Sunset Beach, Oahu during the storm, and the sun only peeked through the clouds a couple of times, briefly. I was waiting. Here is my image.
