Some hidden rocky beach in Tenerife. We stayed awake all night around a tiny fire, drinking and drinking, talking and talking. / The Moon surprised us by dawn. / That strange it was.

Its late at night, you are restless, can’t sleep. A walk on the beach seems like a fine idea. No one is around. Just the sounds of the waves and the wind. The lonely wail of an offshore buoy, consistent and haunting. / You hear the sounds of your feet as you walk through the sand toward the path to the beach. / Nearing the path you wonder if it was such a good idea to walk out here alone at night. You hear rustling, the wind, you wonder? The buoy, beating it’s tune to the rhythm of the waves. A fog rolling in, brings a feel of unease to you. Looking down the path you wonder. Should I go? What was that sound? You strain to hear, but the sound of the waves and the wind leave you wondering if you really heard anything at all. And suddenly, the hairs on your arms rise….....

recommended – click image for a better view Another photograph that has been years in the waiting for everything to fall into alignment – this time the elements required were: / - night with a northerly wind to keep out any moist or damp air and blow back any salty spray/mist. fogging up the lens. / - no moon. / - no clouds. / - a high tide. / - it be warm/hot enough for me not to freeze. / - no work the following day. A combination that is not easy to get on Victoria’s South Gippsland coastline…. Gerroa is an idyllic village at the Kiama end of Seven Mile Beach on the south coast of New South Wales … their sunset on Tuesday (6 January 08) was aided by smoke haze from bushfires in the Morton National Forest. After a day in which temperatures reached 40 degrees celsius and beyond, there were plenty of relaxed holiday-makers still enjoying the ambience, the breeze and the spectacular skies. Rota Island – August 2009 / straight out of the camera / Life on this island is friendly and unhurried and the hospitality is as unforgettable as the magical sunsets. Rota Island is a natural playground with around 3000 inhabitants and is known by many to be Micronesia’s best-kept secret / Rota (Chamoru: Luta) also known as the “peaceful island”, is the southernmost island of the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and the second southernmost of the Marianas Archipelago. It lies approximately 40 miles north-northeast of the United States territory of Guam. Songsong village is the largest and most populated followed by Sinapalo village (Sinapalu). In 1521, the first European to see Rota, was the lookout on Magellan’s ship Victoria, Lope Navarro. However, Magellan’s Armada of three ships didn’t stop until they reached Guam, so the first European to arrive in Rota (in 1524), was Spanish navigator Juan Sebastian Elcano, who annexed it together with the rest of the Marianas Archipelago on behalf of the Crown of Spain.
