  • This is a bit different from my usual stuff…..but change is good…..for a little while, anyway. / / This shot is actually a mistake – thought I had zoomed out when infact I hadn’t and at first glance I assumed I had missed what I was aiming for….this is what I found when I put my images on the computer….I like it. / / I haven’t done a thing to it – this is the 100% original file…. / / / / / / / / /

  • An infrared capture taken on Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Australia. / / It was a really overcast day and a huge storm was rolling in. • I often get questions about the pump house and the diving blocks at Merewether Beach so I found out a bit of info….. 1935 / At a cost of 2,600 pounds, Merewether Ocean Baths, acclaimed as the ‘largest of their kind in the State’ opened as part of the Merewether Golden Jubilee celebrations in November. There was a procession in fancy dress from the Council chambers to the baths. Considered ‘the greatest advertisement for Merewether as a residential suburb’, the new baths had been built further seaward and a little to the south of the older Merewether baths on the same rock platform. At 110 yards by 90 yards, they were ‘big enough to hold the larger swimming events’ and separated into a main pool and a children’s pool by a wide promenade. The main pool nearest the sea was 110 yards long and 55 yards wide, while the shore portion was 110 yards long and 35 yards wide. The 3,500 pounds for relief work on the baths had been paid by the NSW government. Excavation of the baths promised to yield 6,000 to 7,000 cubic yards of stone valued at 2,500 pounds. Merewether Council was seeking a further government loan to cover the construction of dressing-sheds at the baths. The new baths became central to the life of the community and prompted more people from the Lower Hunter district to visit Merewether. • I got really wet for this one. I really should wait for warmer weather to do these sort of shots!

  • Another in my series of shots of the Newcastle Baths, the adjoining canoe pool and surrounding beaches. Today the weather was windy but sunny and so the ocean gave off the most beautiful blue colouring. This shot is similar to my previous one however you will note the canoe pool has water in this one and the pool covers a more total area of the photo. Always a challenge and always a spot to keep going back to. This shot was taken with the Nikon D80 using the 55-200 mm lens on landscape setting. / / ALSO IN THIS SERIES /

  • Another shot of big seas off Newcastle Beach in NSW Australia. The mixed colours of surf and spray add to the beauty of this landscape ocean landscape. This image was taken from the Canoe Pool at Newcastle Baths looking south with a Nikon D80, 55-200 mm VR lens, set to automatic landscape setting. No tripod was used. / /

  • I liked the colour in this one. Taken on the Sony A200 again. Too much sea spray to take out the Canon.

  • Another from this mornings sunrise.

  • Taken from inside Newcastle Canoe Pool at Newcastle Beach, Australia at 6:20AM.

  • This is the Sunset on the 24th seen from the rocks around the Newcastle Salt water Baths. This HDR image was made from a raw image and processed in Photomatix Pro 3. The sky was amazing beautiful colours and a great reflection in the rock pools. The clouds to the right of the image was a storm that was hammering the Nelson bay region. • Sunrise at Dudley Beach. Definitely go large to see this one.

  • ND400 + ND4 filters / f/20 / 30sec / ISO100 / 11:27am

  • Tonight’s sunset at Merewether Beach. Canon EOS450D / ND400 filter / ISO100 / f/8 / 50sec Processing: / Add a gradient filter to bring out some detail in the sky. Then / Duplicate Layer, set blend mode to Overlay and go Filter>Other>High Pass and use a radius of approx 20 pixels. Click OK to accept. Hold down the Alt key and add a new vector mask at the bottom of the layers palette to assign a black (hide all) mask to the layer. Then its a matter of selecting the paintbrush and painting back in the detail on selected parts of the image. I chose the sand/rock in the foreground and the clouds. Finally add a Vibrance layer to pump up the colours a tad and finish with some noise reduction if necessary. ;0)

  • Canon 450D, ND400, ISO100, f/9.0, 6sec exposure. Newcastle Beach @ 9:47AM

  • Canon450D / ISO100 / f/9 / 8sec / ND400 / Sturdy Tripod / Shutter release / Wet back – an unexpected rush of water sprayed up from behind me…luckily I was leaning over my camera and managed to stop most of the water from hitting it – but the wet clothes made for a cold shoot….but my shoes remained dry ;0) Newcastle Beach, NSW, Australia. / 18th June, 2009 @ 9:56AM

  • Looking though some of my old images I found a complete list of the Images I took of the Pasha Bulka. Not long after taking these images I had a hard drive failure and I though I had lost all of the photos taken that day. About 5 months ago I found a CD that had about 6 images on it but only JPG versions. Still They were processed and they have turned out to be some of my more popular images. During a clean up of the computer room I discovered a CD with ALL of the images. This image I have not seen since I took it and I was very supprised at the quality of the image. Also on theat CD are some images I took of Somersby Falls the morning after that huge June storm. I will process a few of those as well. / Image taken with a Nikon D70 using the 70-300mm lens Featured in Central Coast and Huter / Featured in Going Coastal / Featured in Colour and Light / Featured in Style! • A Para-Glider enjoying the adrenaline rush of flying on the breeze at Dixon Park in New South Wales, Australia. A digital photograph captured with a 6 MP Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S500 and edited in Photoshop Elements 7 where textures and effects filters were applied. The original photograph of the glider is much more light-filled than this edit.
