I bought some Singh Ray filters mid November. I did not get a chance to try them out until after Xmas – says a lot about the mad rush leading up to this period of the year. After using them I am in awe as to how effective they are. Dawn at Garie Beach, Royal National Park just south of Sydney, Australia. A seagull very obligingly flew into shot as I was taking this. Can you spot the silhouetted fishermen? / I’m lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve ever seen – it’s only a little national park (14,000 ha) but the variety of stuff to photograph is simply endlessly inspiring. A crab had delicately made these balls at the entry to its hole on the beach….it just happened to be in the shape of a heart! / You can see the crab hole at the bottom of the heart.

Rota Island – August 2009 / straight out of the camera / Life on this island is friendly and unhurried and the hospitality is as unforgettable as the magical sunsets. Rota Island is a natural playground with around 3000 inhabitants and is known by many to be Micronesia’s best-kept secret / Rota (Chamoru: Luta) also known as the “peaceful island”, is the southernmost island of the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) and the second southernmost of the Marianas Archipelago. It lies approximately 40 miles north-northeast of the United States territory of Guam. Songsong village is the largest and most populated followed by Sinapalo village (Sinapalu). In 1521, the first European to see Rota, was the lookout on Magellan’s ship Victoria, Lope Navarro. However, Magellan’s Armada of three ships didn’t stop until they reached Guam, so the first European to arrive in Rota (in 1524), was Spanish navigator Juan Sebastian Elcano, who annexed it together with the rest of the Marianas Archipelago on behalf of the Crown of Spain.
