The rustic timber breawater in early morning light at Raaf’s beach between Ocean Grove and Bawon Heads…with the Bluff at Barwon heads in the background. / Barwon Heads is the location setting for the TV series Sea Change
This is another case of right place right time. I normally check the tides to see where they will be at sunrise and sunset, but as my fiance and I were staying near Geelong for a few days, I didn’t bring a tide chart with me and so I had to take guesses as to where it would likely be. Anyway, at the last minute I decided to head down to Point Lonsdale to take a few shots of the lighthouse and to my delight the tide was out and slowly creeping in. By the time I finished shooting, I was walking through water to get back to the shore.
The light was changing every minute. I climbed over some huge rocks to get into a great position to take some surfing shots, when suddenly this huge cloud covered up the sun. Suddenly the beautiful light illuminating the waves the surfers were riding was gone. I looked to my left and noticed the light here. Quickly, I grabbed my stuff and setup this shot…..only got one frame, because soon after this the light here was also gone. This one is for those who were with me who chose to exercise while I took photos – makes no sense to me …. but I promised to share my impressions of Barwon Heads. Also to Linda who, against her better judgement, dragged herself out of bed to drive me down to the beach.

Depression and anxiety affect 1 in 5 Australians and can be as severe, incapacitating and life threatening as other physical ailments. Reaching out for help is often difficult. With kind thanks to Justin for modelling for this image. Taken at Hallett Cove, South Australia

Gerroa is an idyllic village at the Kiama end of Seven Mile Beach on the south coast of New South Wales … their sunset on Tuesday (6 January 08) was aided by smoke haze from bushfires in the Morton National Forest. After a day in which temperatures reached 40 degrees celsius and beyond, there were plenty of relaxed holiday-makers still enjoying the ambience, the breeze and the spectacular skies. Mr Weatherman forecast rain for the next 7 days. Not taking his advice i decided to try my luck out yesterday morning. Well there wasn’t any light, but also no rain, so that’s a bonus! Only a small exposure adjustment needed in post for this one. I’m loving my 50D.

I know not many people find this beach in Noosa Heads National Park, Queensland, Australia. Every time I visit here, there is not one footprint on the beach. This is the same beach as The Immortal Soldier image, shot on the same day. The unused path that leads to this beach is hard to find, and the incline can be up to 80%, and very slippery. Sometimes sliding is the best way down :) I can sit here for hours, it’s so tranquil and unspoilt. Canon 50D, 10mm, 16:9 crop. Available Large and best viewed Large!

Going to do a series of the Noosa National Park in Queensland. This place is totally beautiful, and so natural! The park is loaded with hiking tracks, with some unmarked and quite rugged. I can’t think of anything better than being alone and at one with nature in it’s purest form. This rock pool, not easily accessable as it took about 20 minutes of rock jumping and some climbing. I find the best places are where no one can easily access :) Noosa National Park, Noosa Heads, Queensland, Australia. Canon 50D, 10mm. Available Large and best viewed Large!

The beautiful Granite Bay in Noosa National Park. The more I visit this place, the more I fall in love with the area. There is always birds flying around, beautiful rock pools, just waiting to be discovered. Some of the larget pools make a lovely smooth base pool too :) Granite Bay, Noosa National Park, Noosa Heads, Queensland, Australia. Canon 5D Mk II, 35mm, 16:9 crop. Available very large, and best viewed large.
I was excited again this afternoon as the storms approached from the west. My brother and I raced to the lookout over Sunshine Beach in the Noosa National Park. As fast as they formed, they dissipated, leaving what was to be a beautiful sky in the sunset. I took the time to get to the hidden beach again as the now weak storm cell passed overhead. WOW I was in nature heaven, and I’m so happy I made the effort this afternoon to get to this spot. It’s so wild, untamed and serene. It wasn’t long before the usual eagles soared overhead. You don’t get many other birds here for some reason. Noosa Hidden Beach (not official name, un-named beach), Noosa National Park, Noosa Heads, Queensland, Australia. Canon 5D Mk II, 2x stitched horizontal 16mm shots. 180 degrees field of view. Actual print size is over 3 metres high :) Best viewed Large of course.
