This one is not in the charity series. I took it at Port Melbourne because I thought it served as a great analogy for adventure. It captured the last moment of contact with the known before leaping off into the unknown.
An exhilarating day of sunshine on the water, on the Gulf of Mexico at Longboat Beach, near Sarasota, Florida. A lone gull stands on the sugary sand at the water’s edge, perhaps enjoying the breeze, perhaps waiting for something tasty to wash ashore. My little corner of the world has to be represented by a beautiful shot of sand and sunshine backed by the beautiful blue of the Gulf of Mexico. This is where I grew up and, throughout several decades of living in the north (Virginia is about as far “north” as I could allow myself to go), it was the Gulf that I continued to feel connected to. I grew up with it and, wherever I go, I still feel oriented to it; I learned to tell directions from my relative position to the beach and the Gulf. I cannot imagine being happy again living too far away from it. I look at this picture and can just smell the sunshine—how can it not be my happy haven?
I was sitting on a beach in the freezing cold on the Scottish Island of Cumbrae, waiting for a Trident nuclear submarine to pass me on its way to the Faslane sub base further up the estuary of the Clyde, when I was rudely interrupted by these geese who seemed to be having an argument…
Fog ,my passion,I ‘ve done so many shots of foggy mornings. This one I kept for a while because I knew I would need to warm up my cold winter days. That morning I remember looking for a long time the fog rising up as the sun woke up,that’s the expression of my grandchildren. The sun doen’t rise he wakes up .. :)) so cute..That seagull made my day.I choose the tittle because of the book «Jonathan the seagull» /
The sun sets early here in the Netherlands in December. So is was just after 4 pm on 12/11 on the IJmuiden North-Sea beach that the sun prepared itself in such a magnificent manner for its departure. With a little effort I could train these gulls to fly just between me and the sun. It proved impossible however to get just one or two do it right. So the shot is somewhat crowded. I hope you will not mind that. IJmuiden, 11th December 2007, 4.07 pm / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 55 mm / F 16, 1/200, ISO 200

This Image was uploaded for the Phoenix Appeal – a group created to help the victims of the horrible bush fires in Austrailia and will be available for purchase on their page. This little gull reminded me of the book Jonathan Livingston Seagull . It was a favorite of my mother’s and she often quoted it on our many trips to the lake when I was younger. / Here the gull is returning to shore to teach what he has learned to the other’s willing to listen. :) From the book: / “Jonathan Seagull discovered that boredom and fear and anger are the reasons that a gull’s life is so short, and with these gone from his thoughts, he lived a long fine life indeed.” Photo taken at Coney Island, NY
This image was taken on 1st April 2009 at Mills Beach in Mornington. / Canon 450D 18-200 lens / exp: 1/200s f5.6 / ISO 125 / I went to the beach with my family for some fish & chips and almost didn’t take my camera. My hubby talked me into it last minute. I would have been in tears!!! /
Original beach image by my good friend Barssel / Dreaming you into Life The sea spray on my face lingers, dissolving into my thoughts / Deliciously captivating to my fertile mind / My eyelashes murmur softly / Like grass on the dunes / Closing my eyes, I breathe deeply and dream you into life / You come to me now in this windswept cove / Seeking out treasures and wading through rock pools beside me / Searching grottos for memory jewels / We select precious shells to throw into the crystal bowl of days gone by Tracing the waves gently teasing the shore / Believing we are the only souls on earth / In our own tiny moment of afternoon splendour / Setting sunrays tickling our spines / Warming our necks and conjuring up promises of things to come / Peering into smiling eyes and pools of understanding / Knowing, just knowing all will be as it should / Nurtured in the way it was dreamed of all along / / As we glide along with our senses heightened / Sea air rushes in and around us / Mingling and entwining our souls / Like a pink fairy floss storm at the fair / Eagerly awaiting the fluffy candy of love / Fully aware of that tempting sweet aroma / The first taste begging to melt over our tongues / Like heaven and nectar rolled into a honey desire The gulls cry out to us with encouragement / Watching and floating on morphed hopes and dreams / That spiral up like thought clouds from our subconsciousness / Hopeful of conquering the quest of ages / They dip and swoop through everlasting mirages / High on endorphins, caught in euphoric rainbows / Glistening with raindrop refractions filled with sensual gifts / Created in the wonderment of a yearning love from within My sand covered toes curl in surprise / As the cool sea returns me to reality / I let my eyes wander lazily to the rocky balcony beyond / Wishing you were there waiting for my smile / Watching me dance over miniature waves / Stooping to scoop up another lost treasure / I tilt my head, my hair flying as if electrically charged / Imagining you calling me back to my hearts dream TMac

Located on Venice Beach, FL this beach did not have many sunbathers which made it easy to photograph. I loved the large clump of seagrass that was on the sand. 50 blades of seagrass blowing in the wind! Taken with a Canon XTI / f/8 / ISO-100 / 1/640 sec / 24mm
Gulls at St Kilda Beach digging for their supper. Unedited.
This is Noosa North Shore, looking North towards the coloured sand cliffs, and Double Island Point. The cliffs are on fire, and much of the precious sand dune cover is going to be lost. Errosion is inevitable, possibly from an irresponsible camper lighting fires in a total fire ban, or the back-burning error made by the councils. Smoke can be seen to the left of this shot, limiting visibility along the beach. Still, this is one of the most beautiful places I have been, and the wildlife here, with the many eagles is just magical to witness. Even the pipi birds, gannets, terns, and seagulls (a seagull in flight in this shot) are awe inspiring! Canon 5D Mk II, 35mm, 16:9 crop. Available very large, and best viewed large!
