A trip to Carmel or Monerey is not complete without a visit to the ever so famous Pebble Beach. Always the perfect place to enjoy the peaceful sunset. The following is from WIKIPEDIA: / Pebble Beach is an unincorporated community in Monterey County, California. It lies at an elevation of 3 feet (1 m). Pebble Beach is a small coastal resort destination, home to the famous golf course, Pebble Beach Golf Links. Technically, Pebble Beach is not a city at all, but rather a corporation owned by the Pebble Beach Company, a subsidiary of Plaut Inc. Residents therefore pay homeowners’ fees for road maintenance as well as Monterey County property taxes. The community’s post office is named Pebble Beach, but the U.S. Census Bureau aggregates census returns from Pebble Beach as part of the larger census-designated place of Del Monte Forest. The area is also partly administrated by the Del Monte Forest Foundation, a non-profit organization designated by Monterey County and the California Coastal Commission, and comprising a volunteer board of 12 members working to preserve the open space within the Del Monte Forest. Except for two representatives of the Pebble Beach Company, all must be property owners and residents of the Forest. / Third place in “Northern California’s Best Paths” in the group, NORTHERN CALIFORNIA STYLE ~ November 2009

The August sun sleepily lifts above the horizon off the coast of Virginia Beach, illuminating the Atlantic shoreline. This picture was taken on what the Guinness Book of World Records states is the longest pleasure beach in the world. This section of the coast is also rife with history. Cape Henry, the site of the English colonists’ first landing in 1607, is a mere few miles to the north. ISO 100 1/50 f/5.6 20mm, taken using a Sony A300 w/ kit lens. Three exposures at -2,0, and 2 were blended in Photomatix to yield an HDR. Featured in 1620!
NOTE: Original pre-HDR takes included further down in comments section… Daughter Mel and hubby Art. / On Flagler Beach / Under the pier / In love What could be more inspiring to try my frist attempt at HDR? / As the pier created severe shadows, there’s no way I could have kept the blue sky with a single exposure. So I took three, with auto bracketing (+2, even, -2). You need something to keep the camera still as the 3 shots are ultimately processed together with a program called Photmatix (there are others, but this is the one I used), so I just jammed the camera against a nearby pile and held my breath. Told the two lovebirds to hold theirs too! The software lets you choose lots of processing options once the three pictures are loaded. It even helps align the shots if there was slight movement. The process by which the tonal values are selected from the 3 (or more) shots is called tone mapping, and the results can be really unusual. In this case, without going for extreme effect, I like the way parts of the image seem to stand out from the rest, and I also like what it does to the tones and topography of the skin… not to mention retention of highlight and shadow detail which would have been lost in a single exposure undern these conditions. OK, so it’s all been done before. But not by ME, so I’m excited, yeah? Got a couple more I’ll share later… like inside the biggest Harley dealership in the world… HD in HDR…? Thanks for lookin’... and feelin’ the love!!

On Cape Cod there is a fabulous boardwalk that crosses over a lovely marsh and leads to the beach. Taken with a Canon XTI / f/8 / ISO-100 / 1/500 sec / 55mm
This pic was taken on Nightcliff beach after me and my mate jumped a fence, walked through some tress and climbed down some rocks to find a nice quiet spot, then nilly slipped over in a puddle! It was about 11:30PM or some where around then, it was super dark! / :) / Featured In Sea : / /

Flagler Beach, Florida. / Such an amazing place… miles and miles of beautiful sand, and very few people. So much space to beachcomb… The boardwalk is one of many that span the short hop over the dunes from the roadside of the A1A… one of the most magnificent coastline highways in the US, running from Miami Beach in the south all the way to Jacksonville in the north. Large sections of the highway are so fragile that they’re under threat of being consumed by rising sea levels, and though so much is being done to counter the erosion, I can’t help but think the breath-taking views it provides will soon be but an amazing memory. HDR from 3 bracketed exposures at 1,5 f stop intervals.
