  • This new genus of eyeless troglibitic fish is endemic to two caves in Lum Nam Pai Wildlife Sanctuary in Mae Hong Son Province, Thailand. It is the size of a small finger, has no scales, no pigment (the pink colour is its blood), and has it adapted to an extremely specific environment – it lives only in fast rapids and on waterfalls deep inside its cave habitat. It uses microscopic hooks under its fins to cling to rocks and waddle up vertical waterfalls. Its scientific name is Cryptotora thamicola, but the BBC Planet Earth team that I guided to one of the cave habitats dubbed it “Angel Fish”. The air in the cave is almost unbreathable with a whopping 5% carbon dioxide, and after 6 full days in the cave with the BBC, often gasping for breath, I thought I was going to finally kark it…but I went back again into the CO2 soup to capture the first underwater still images of this remarkable fish. It was taken with an Olympus waterproof digital camera on the macro LED setting, using underwater torch light as a backlight. I doubt I will go back to try to shoot any more images.

  • I put this together because I’m a HUGE fan of Louis Theroux and wanted a t-shirt!! I love Louis Theroux!!! I’ve never found any other documentaries that are so entertaining and I’m the type that would get cable just to watch the doco channels!!! Louis is an absolute legend in my mind!! Weird Weekends… is a MUST SEE series in my opinion. (the gun target with the silhouette is the symbol used for the Weird Weekends Doc’s) If you can get your hands on the full collection box set (I got it from the UK) I highly recommend it!! In it Louis comes face to face with Nazi’s, swingers, mail order brides, wrestlers, the porn industry, a brothel, american rappers, boers & afrikaans, black racists… and more!! He finds people that are so one sided and ignorant and he easily shows them for what they really are! He lets them dig their own graves. It’s pure brilliance and at times funny as hell!! If you’ve not seen the series then here’s a couple of Youtube previews to give you a taste Louis in a Thailand mail order bride agency Louis singin his own rap song Louis with End of the World Survivalists Louis in South Africa with Boer Leader

  • On 27th February 2009, U2 played a free mini-concert on the roof of BBC House off Regent Street London. They played four songs (‘Get on your boots’ and ‘Magnificent’ from their new album “No Line on the Horizon”, as well as “Vertigo” and “Beautiful Day”) in front of 5,000 people who turned up to hear them play on a crowded but closed off Regent Place on a not-too-cold evening. (Part of my motivation in uploading this shot is that I want to buy it too – it was a fantastically special thing to be part of on a random Friday evening in London after work) Link to Journal Entry of the Concert

  • Parody on a double take. In the 1960’s the BBC hosted a Children’s TV series caled Playschool. One of their ‘antics’ was to chose a window ‘Which one will it be?’ ...round, square or arched….through which to show a themed film clip. Play School is a long-running British children’s television series produced by the BBC which ran from 21 April 1964 until 11 March 1988. Devised by Nicko Spalding, it accidentally became the first ever programme to be shown on the fledgling BBC2 after a power cut halted the opening night’s programming (and later it became the first children’s programme to be shown in colour by that channel). Play School originally appeared on weekdays at 11am on BBC2 and later acquired a mid-afternoon BBC1 repeat. It was superseded in October 1988 by Playbus, which soon became Playdays. When the BBC scrapped the afternoon edition of Play School in 1985, to make way for a variety of children’s programmes in the afternoon, a Sunday morning compilation was launched called Hallo Again!. There were several opening sequences for Play School, the first one A house with a door, windows 1 2 3 4, ready to knock? Turn the lock – It’s Play School This changed in the early seventies to A house with a door, 1 2 3 4, ready to play, what’s the day? It’s… In this version blinds opened on the windows as the numbers were said. Out went the blinds at towards the end of the 1970s and the word windows was added before 1 2 3 4 The final opening sequence involved a multicoloured house with no apparent windows. This was used from 1983 until the end of the programme. This saw the most radical revamp of the programme overall (not just in the opening titles). The opening legend then became Get ready – to play. What’s the day? It’s… Parody on Microsoft logo TO TAKE THE PISS / To take the piss is a British slang expression meaning to mock, tease, ridicule or scoff. Take the mickey (or variations) are euphemistic ways of conveying this expression where the word “piss” may be vulgar. / The term sometimes refers to a form of mockery or a piss take in which the mocker exaggerates the other person’s characteristics; pretending to take on his or her attitudes, etc., in order to make them look funny. / The phrase is in common usage throughout English society, employed by headline writers in broadsheet gazettes and tabloids as well as colloquially and is also used in English speaking countries such as Australia. In colloquial usage, ‘taking the piss’ is also used to refer to someone or something that makes a claim which is not in line with a recognised agreement e.g. an invoice that is double the quoted price with no explanation for the added charge could be said to ‘take the piss’, or likewise if something consistently misses a deadline ACRYLIC ART CALENDARS CARDS POETRY PHOTOGRAPHY – ANIMALS PHOTOGRAPHY -CANDID SHOTS PHOTOGRAPHY – CATS AND DOGS PHOTOGRAPHY – CONTEMPORARY WORK PHOTOGRAPHY – FLOWERS PHOTOGRAPHY – INSECTS PHOTOGRAPHY – TRADITIONALLY TURKISH PHOTOGRAPHY – TREE AND TREE PARTS T-SHİRTS My Images Do Not Belong To The Public Domain. The show ran for six series, with several specials over a ten year period, from 1990 to 2000. The series features the exploits of Victor Meldrew, played by Richard Wilson, and his long-suffering wife, Margaret, played by Annette Crosbie, in their battle against the trials of modern life. After being forced to take involuntary early retirement, the series followed the protagonist’s various efforts to keep himself busy, whilst encountering various misfortunes and misunderstandings. The series was set in a typical suburban household in a suburb of London based on Luton (although was largely filmed on location in Dorset). However, despite its traditional production, the series subverts its domestic sitcom setting with elements of black humour and surrealism. / The One Foot in the Grave theme song was written and sung by Eric Idle. A longer version was produced for the special “One Foot in the Algarve”, with a remixed version released as a single in November 1994. ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE They say I might as well face the truth / That I am just too long in the tooth. / So I’m an OAP and weak-kneed / But I have not yet quite gone to seed. / I may be over the hill now that I have retired / Fading away but I’ve not yet expired. / Clapped out, run down, too old to save / One Foot in the Grave. They say I might as well face the truth / That I am just too long in the tooth. / I’ve started to deteriorate / And now I’ve passed my own sell-by date. Oh, I am no spring chicken it’s true. / I have to pop my teeth in to chew. / And my old knees have started to knock / I’ve just got too many miles on the clock. So I’m a wrinkly, crinkly, set in my ways. / It’s true that my body has seen better days. / But give me half a chance and I can still misbehave. / One Foot in the Grave. / One Foot in the Grave. / One Foot in the Grave.
