This small rock pool is found in Cabbage Tree Bay, along the pathway between Manly and Shelly Beach on Sydney’s northern beaches. The sculpture/statue is known as The Oceanids. This image was a 30 second exposure nearly an hour before sunrise with the pool wall and sculpture lit up by a nearby street light. This image has also won a photo of the week at photographer Steve Parish’s Photograph Australia website.

Sorry for not posting many shots over the past few weeks and not leaving any replies. I have been really busy with work and work around the house. I can tell you the past few days have been the worst choice to do some work around the Garden. Anyway here are two HDR – Sunrise shots from a few weeks ago taken from Victoria Road near the old White Bay Power Station. I hope you like it. I took this shot in Bateau Bay, which is part of Central Coast New South Wales Australia. Roughly 2 hours above Sydney. I love the glow of sunsets in wet sand and this, broken by the rocks, formed a scene I just had to capture!

by Philip JohnsonBEST VIEWED LARGER Berrys Bay is located on the Northern shore of Sydney Harbour . The harbour has many bays and tributaries. Berrys Bay /Balls Head Reserve can be reached by train from the city, you alight at Waverton Railway Station. The former BP Berry’s Bay bulk fuel storage and distribution terminal is located on the cliffs and foreshore area of Balls Head/Waverton Peninsula approximately 1.6 km northwest of the Sydney CBD. The site was operated by BP Australia as a fuel storage and distribution facility from the early 1920s. BP’s operations ceased in 1993 and the tanks were demolished in the mid 1990s. Premier Bob Carr announced in 1997 that this site, together with the Coal Loader and Caltex Sites on the other side of the peninsula would be preserved as Public Open Space It now has been returned to the public, as part of Sydney Harbour National Park, as you can see it is a magical site with wonderful panoramic views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge , Sydney Opera House (you can see under the bridge) the Sydney Skyline. Thank god governments make some good decisions returning open spaces to the people not the Developers. BEST VIEWED LARGER Sunrise lights Lavender Bay is located on the North Shore of Sydney Harbour easily reached by ferry service from Sydney’s ferry terminus of Circular Quay. The buildings behind is the North Sydney CBD, this shot is the result of 5 bracketted images, processed in Photomatix HDR Software. No filters were used the only post production was the HDR software tonemapping and a touch of sharpening in Capture NX. My continued exploration of the HDR technique

This shot shows the city skyline as seen from North Sydney CBD on the northern shore of Sydney Harbour, in the foreground is Lavender Bay. Technique: HDR , 5 Bracketted images processed with Photomatix Pro with avery slight adjustment (sharpening & contrast) in Capture NX. Equipment: Nikon D300 , Nikon 18-200mm lens No filters or colour adjustment 1) RED SKY AT NIGHT… means that as the sun sets in the west, if it has a red hue or color to it, then the moisture was further west of their location. Thus SAILORS DELIGHT. A beautiful sunset. 2) RED SKY IN MORN…means that as the sunlight from the rising sun passes through moisture, it too will be red. This means that with the rotation of the earth, this will bring this moisture (and possible storm) right on top of them and it is only a few hours away. SO SAILORS TAKE WARN.” / I hope this bit of weather science helps.

Early Evening In The Garden Of Good And Evil was shot at Elkington Park in Balmain, Sydney, in the company of millions of mosquitos and batches of bats. Since being Featured Art by Redbubble and in the Night Photography Group, this work has become one of my most popular images on RB. Full moon over Sydney taken from the track leading to Bundeena Cliffs in Royal National Park looking north towards the city. Sydney is often called the Emerald City because of its grandeur built on illusion and deception a la Wizard of Oz. But I’ve got to say that this night the light from the city reflecting on the low drifting clouds beneath the light of the moon made for a pretty special sight.
