Looking south from Caves Beach Jervis Bay. One of these “I don’t believe this” moments. One of the problems with Royal NP (where I shoot most of my photos) is that it’s under the flight path for Sydney airport which is a problem at night because I end up getting lots of distracting light trails from the planes (there is often no more than 90 seconds between one plane flying out of a frame and another flying in). Given it takes 10 minutes to start getting decent star trails you end up with 10 plane trails in the shot. / So me and my partner headed south to the almost equally gorgeous national park at Jervis Bay 2.5 hours south of Sydney. Whoopee I thought – no planes. And then, just as I pressed the shutter this tiny light plane flew into frame. My first reaction was #$Q #%$## what do you have to do to get away from aircraft and I nearly closed the shutter. But then I thought just leave it and take another shot after this one. So I left it and it turned out to be my favourite shot of the start trails I took that night. The white glow is the Milky Way and the orange glow is from a village on the other side of the bay. / Tv: 619secs / Av: f/3.5 / ISO: 200 / FL: 17MM / Canon 30D

jervis bay / / jervis bay / An area of beautifu white sands and pleasant bushwalking. / Located about 170 km from Sydney, Jervis Bay is both an inlet and the basis of the uniquely beautiful Booderee National Park / History / After Federation occurred in 1901 plans were set in motion to create a city (ultimately Canberra) within an independent territory (the ACT) wherein the new Federal Government could sit. Work began in 1913 and, in 1915, the Royal Australian Naval College opened at Captain Point under Federal administration as HMAS Creswell. The Royal Australian Naval College no longer exists as it was absorbed into the Australian Defence Force Academy but some officer training still occurs at Jervis Bay. MUCH BETTER VIEWED LARGER Sydney is great for sunrises, it quite often receives spectacular sunrises as it greets the sunrises that appear from the east., here the city seems hesitant as brooding clouds greet the dawn. This shot shows the city skyline as seen from North Sydney CBD on the northern shore of Sydney Harbour, in the foreground is Lavender Bay. Scalea is a picturesque, little town which takes its name from its terraced lay-out an the hillside, at the bottom of the Capo Scalea promontory. The old town is placed on the heights and preserves the remains of an ancient wall, while towards the beach, the Scalea Marina centre has recently been developed, with modern, comfortable hotels splendid villas and numerous, fully-equipped bathing areas on the beach. These enchanting beaches look out onto a sea of incomparable beauty. This town was no doubt inhabited even in prehistorical times, as proved by the material of the Paleolithic period that was excavated in a cavern near Torre Talao, which dominates over the rocky promontory called Scalea Island. It is claimed that the town of Lao, of pre- Indo-European origin and colonized by the Sybarites in the 6th-5th century B.C., once stood an the plain South of Scalea, near the mouth of the river Lao. Nowadays Scalea is synonymous of seaside and holidays. Indeed, it is one of the most visited resorts in Italy. But the name of Scalea is also synonymous of culture, history and folklore. During the Swabian, Angevin, Aragonese and Spanish era, Scalea became an important fief and a centre of study, which was gradually enriched with monuments and works of art, most of which can still be admired today. The 13th century Palazzo of the Spinelli Princes (XIII century), which belongs to the Town Council, is the most important building of the lower part of the old Town Centre. In the old hamlet the main “street” is an attractive stairway that begins in piazza De Palma: it is a natural amphitheatre. The late sun on Hazards Beach, i spent my first night camp here, this is on the other side of the peninsula to Wineglass bay, only saw 2 other people that day, I did pass 3 Tiger snakes within 15 minutes on the walk to this beach, they are pretty slow this time of year so no worries there. I spent the day here lying in the sun, swimming and scouting for photo spots for sunset/rise..lovely jubly.
