The commercial fishermen (baymen) must pass through the Shinnecock Inlet (pretty treacherous going – the inlet was created by a huge storm that broke through the outer barrier beach in the 1930’s.) As I said in a previous post Hurricane Ike was supposed to hit where I live dead on and at the last minute it changed and went north missing us completely. My heart , thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in the Houston and Galveston areas. I have family there and just hope everyone is doing well besides the fact. We have been lucky but I wanted to share the skies with what Hurricane Ike spared us and what God left behind for us. September 13, 2008

On the way into Denham, Shark Bay W.A. / There was a storm rolling in and the colour of the water turned from a beautiful blue to green as the sky turned grey. / This area is named after the osprey or sea eagles which nest on the rock island just offshore. It boasts a boardwalk which extends over the ocean and from this you can see the useless loop salt pile as well as dugongs you can see during the summer when they come in close to shore to feed on the massive sea grass meadows you can see in the Shark Bay area. / The warm shallow waters in this bay abound in whiting and sea mullet which attract dozens of sharks to feed. / Eagle Bluff also marks the spot where captain H.M. Denham carved the inscription on a rock in 1858 in which the town derives its name. / The rock is now placed in Pioneer park in the township of Denham because it was fragile and breaking away from the bluff.
The Mary Hume was one of the first, if not the first, ship on the southern Oregon coast to be used for salmon fishing. It is now a tourist attraction at Gold Beach, OR.
