Painted in my Byron Bay art gallery / studio. / This painting is one in my series on dance and movement. In this series I study, which lines and colors, within a persons movement, define the soul of a person, to find the answer I worked for several weeks with one model. / We did four photo-shoots, over 2500 photos, hours of organization, observation and dialog, one video-shoot and over a 100 sketches. This resulted into a series I call: The Narrative of Motion. The series contain powerful mysterious poses, It feels like the spirit is pushed out of the physical cage of the body.

Well I have just gotten back from a stint up the East coast on Sunday night, and of course had to stop in Byron Bay for what was supposed to be a night, but turned into 4. Took about a million photographs but only a few were Red Bubble worthy in my own estimation. Unfortunately for me, a very talented Lee Burgess has beaten me to the punch on the lighthouse by about 8 hours…Oh well, pays not to sit on piccies too long huh! For what its worth, this is my take…

a beautiful song about the beach at Byron, really worth a listen on utube / Forgotten Beach (Byron Bay) – Robert James / Bay Watch / Beach Series / Karin Taylor / Mixed Media ink pastel acrylic charcoal….plus a lot of gesso :) / I sketched this girl at the The Pass, Byron Bay… / a pretty famous beach, i live close to this beach… / it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth… In my teenage years, everything we did involved the beach, all the fun we had, all the mischief we got up to, from midnight swims, to campfires…..that was our escape…..the first place I went camping on a sorta freedom trip when i was 15 with my two best girls Marve and Prawn…..we were the best friends ever….their we played amongst the surf, got bronzed and enjoyed the attention of the local surfer boys…ahhh memories…. that was one of the best, i have the greatest fondness for all things surrounding the beach, and this song about Byron Bay beach just says it all for me… i hope you like it…. Byron Bay Midnight Ocean Rocks © / Vicki Ferrari The most easterly point in Australia! Byron Bay Moonlight Series / Byron Bay Moon © AS IS / Byron Bay Moon ©— This shot is AS IS (bar the signature) and was taken looking down from the lighthouse (tourist area), into the ocean – quite an angle to the tripod! This was as wide as I could get it, considering the angle! See below for more information. Please excuse me for being lazy by writing all of this in one description. It will fit with all the photographs in this series. These images were taken at Byron Bay Lighthouse, New South Wales, Australia back in 2004. The photographs were shot at night, on a full moon, close to midnight, which is why you can see stars in the sky, a passing ship has its light on, and it also explains the lack of bright reflection on the surface of the ocean. The experimental portraits were taken firing my Sunpak 4500DX flash (handheld), often over and over. Where there are two people (I have deliberately blurred the other person’s face, as a courtesy!) in the image, one of them being me, we had to sit very, very still (difficult for me to do!!) – not smiling (or talking, again hard to do!) as to hold the same smile for an extended period of time can be difficult and if you move your mouth, you get blur. Of course, this explains why those old nostalgic portraits from yesteryear tend to make you think the subjects weren’t that happy! I will also be doing some creative adjustments using Photoshop but will be including that information in the Technical Data. Hope you like this series!
