A friend of mine cerca 1990 when she (and she still is) was a huge fan of the pop singer Paul Young. She was in love with her music, Bauhaus, Japan, Kate Bush, David Bowie…Her records were immaculately stored and filed and were numerous. Being the age of tape there was also an enormous amount of self made compilations. This portrait set out to capture her love of music and somewhat the distance of the performers. She now lives in London and is in her own band The Blue Vegas.

This shot was taken at the Insel Hombroich in Neuss, Germany, near Dusseldorf- a place where wild gardens interact with modern architecture. Designed by architect Erwin Heerich, Turm or “Tower” as I believe it translates, is a striking and serene structure. One of the things that surprised me about this structure, other than it’s notably striking architecture, is that the interior corners seemed to disappear so that one could not really see where the edges were-even when looking directly at them.

Paul Renner was first and foremost an artist. As a typographer Renner combined aspects of the traditional and modern styles. Renner disliked much about modern culture but admired its sense of functionality. During the era of Art Deco Renner designed the font Futura. The geometrically constructed font defines that of the Bauhaus Movement. *The date in the design refers to the time in which the Futura family was created. Additional designs: /
