  • Ducks bathing in the woods, Cambridgeshire UK

  • Now for something completely different. An oldie but a goldie from the analouge vaults of a mama swimming in a rock pool down Coogee way. This is a straight b/w film capture with no tricky stuff done to it. It is as it was when I snapped it. I’ve always been taken with this matronly look possibly because I’ve always been a bit on the bony side but maybe because the woman in this picture looks like a mama. I love her to bits.

  • I often get questions about the pump house and the diving blocks at Merewether Beach so I found out a bit of info….. 1935 / At a cost of 2,600 pounds, Merewether Ocean Baths, acclaimed as the ‘largest of their kind in the State’ opened as part of the Merewether Golden Jubilee celebrations in November. There was a procession in fancy dress from the Council chambers to the baths. Considered ‘the greatest advertisement for Merewether as a residential suburb’, the new baths had been built further seaward and a little to the south of the older Merewether baths on the same rock platform. At 110 yards by 90 yards, they were ‘big enough to hold the larger swimming events’ and separated into a main pool and a children’s pool by a wide promenade. The main pool nearest the sea was 110 yards long and 55 yards wide, while the shore portion was 110 yards long and 35 yards wide. The 3,500 pounds for relief work on the baths had been paid by the NSW government. Excavation of the baths promised to yield 6,000 to 7,000 cubic yards of stone valued at 2,500 pounds. Merewether Council was seeking a further government loan to cover the construction of dressing-sheds at the baths. The new baths became central to the life of the community and prompted more people from the Lower Hunter district to visit Merewether. • Sales of this design so far – 1 sale / / / Summer Heat is a mixed media production on Canson Me-Teintes textured pastel/mixed media paper…. being December in Australia we are experiencing some very warm weather, today the beach was at it’s most gorgeous, this painting is inspired by the sultry salty warm days by the beach we love at this time of year, and the beautiful hues of the water when it’s still like a milk pond as it was this morning :) In the background is an icecream van set up by the beach, which has caught the little one’s eye and she’s waving to the vendor. I’ve used pastels and charcoal, both white and black varieties, as well as pencil and black Faber Castelle markers The original work is available unframed for $220, but it is not so bright and in softer hues… this piece has been enhanced a bit in photoshop

  • When a Grizzly takes a bath, you’d better steer clear; this one was in high gear during his morning ablutions. Taken at the Oklahoma City Zoo on March 22, 2009.

  • A slightly different angle. Location: Newcastle Ocean Baths, NSW, Oz. / Time: 10:35am / Canon 450D / Filters: ND400 + circular polarising / f/20 / ISO100 / 25sec / tripod

  • Ok…so I played with the colours just a bit…lol

  • Went to go spend the day with Storm, Hank and Shaya today….and as luck would have it… / Hank decided to go for a bath….Oh my gosh…was I lucky or what??? / The white you are seeing in Hank’s eyes is something called a nictitating membrane. This eyelid is transparent, and sweeps across the eye from side to side. It grows in the inner corner of the eye, right next to the tear duct. This is a protection against getting any water, blood, etc in the eye…So all my bath pictures have Hank with his nictitating membrane. Nothing is wrong with his eyes at all…

  • Please meet Manwe…My new friend…and, as luck would have it…he also decided to take a bath, just like my dear Hank…Only..Manwe..really really knows how to plunge…what a guy…and I feel pretty damn lucky to have such fine feathered friends…. I am so excited to announce that this photo is being published in NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC! It will be in February 2010 issue…YAY!!! such an honor

  • Went for a little drive to The Entrance today. Came across the Ocean Baths there and got this shot. It was raining most of the time, but it’s amazing how well a zip-lock sandwich bag can waterproof your camera…lol

  • A gorgeous lady drove all the way from Sydney today to have a one-on-one lesson with me. We spent an hour or so going over her camera and how to take an infrared photo and then we went out on a shoot to put it all into practice. I also showed her what you can do with a few Cokin filters. This is one of my favourites from the shoot. Can’t wait to see yours Belinda ;0) EDIT:I’m not sure what is happening to my images (maybe I missed an RB announcement or something), but they are not looking sharp at all on here lately. This image is looking very soft, and the original definitely is not ;0(
