  • This is for the self portrait challenge set by Dennis. No 1 Not that any one can possibly beat Andrew. this is what it looks like as a print

  • Distortion of bathers to the point of no return. Was painted in spring 2007 on 20” x 20” stretched canvas. The original painting is owned by a private collector. Visit my website Click here

  • Now for something completely different. An oldie but a goldie from the analouge vaults of a mama swimming in a rock pool down Coogee way. This is a straight b/w film capture with no tricky stuff done to it. It is as it was when I snapped it. I’ve always been taken with this matronly look possibly because I’ve always been a bit on the bony side but maybe because the woman in this picture looks like a mama. I love her to bits.

  • BETTER VIEWED LARGER Mona Vale pool , on Sydneys northern beaches, one of the many coastal pools, here lit by the dawn of a new day. This shot was taken on a magical dawn, using Nikon D300, Nikon 18-200mm lens. No filters were used and the only post processing was to sharpen the image.

  • BETTER VIEWED LARGER This buiding has to be one of the grandest examples of a beachside bathers pavillion. Balmoral Beach Bathers Pavilion was built in 1929 during the era of Art Deco. If you are visting Sydney, this building now houses one of the best restaurants in Sydney. The view is stunning as the building overlooks the wonderful beach and harbour views stretch to the entrance to Sydney Harbour , North and South Heads. In the vicinity of Balmoral Beach are restaurants, beautiful houses and expensive yachts. It’s an ideal place for a quick swim and takeaway fish and chips at sunset. In fact, its the type of beach where you can take your rollerblades, dog, bike, sailboard and football, or just a picnic basket. The middle area of the beach is graced with a classic footbridge across the sand to a tree-covered outcrop. A section is protected by a shark net. Head to the northern tip of the beach where you’ll find a small, shady park behind an old club building. From here, a short walk through the streets or around the rocks will take you to Chinamans Beach. You can hire sailboards & Balmoral Boatshed offers tuition. Next to the boatshed are the swimming baths, enclosed by shark nets and a wide boardwalk. At Balmoral beach you can take a ferry from Circular Quay to Taronga Zoo or Mosman Wharf and take the bus to the village of Mosman. You can discover nearby Taronga Zoo, and enjoy the breathtaking harbour views at the world’s only harbourside zoo. Swim at Balmoral Beach, one of Sydney Harbour’s best, followed by fish and chips on the beach. Relax at The Spit waterfront recreation area with marinas, restaurants and canoe hire, or join a local kayak tour. Balmoral features Balmoral and Edwards Beaches, both of which are separated by the outcrop of Rocky Point. Both beaches are usually referred to as simply Balmoral. The locality has views across the entrance to Middle Harbour to North Head, Manly, and Clontarf. The harbour beaches face north east and is sheltered from ocean swell by Middle Head. The entire beach is listed on the Register of the National Estate as the ‘Balmoral Beach Conservation Area’.[2] The conservation area includes the promenade, the esplanade, the Rotunda and the Bathers’ Pavilion, which date back to the 1930s.

  • Sales of this design so far – 1 sale / / / Summer Heat is a mixed media production on Canson Me-Teintes textured pastel/mixed media paper…. being December in Australia we are experiencing some very warm weather, today the beach was at it’s most gorgeous, this painting is inspired by the sultry salty warm days by the beach we love at this time of year, and the beautiful hues of the water when it’s still like a milk pond as it was this morning :) In the background is an icecream van set up by the beach, which has caught the little one’s eye and she’s waving to the vendor. I’ve used pastels and charcoal, both white and black varieties, as well as pencil and black Faber Castelle markers The original work is available unframed for $220, but it is not so bright and in softer hues… this piece has been enhanced a bit in photoshop
