  • Colors from the Earth
    by Dawne Olson

    US$3.99–US$91.20

This is an abstract image taken at the edge of a thermal spring in the West Thumb geyser basin in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. While the image appears to not contain any living thing, the colors themselves are in fact a product of the microscopic organisms called Thermophiles which thrive at extremely high temperatures. When visiting Yellowstone, you will see different veins of colors surrounding the fumaroles, geysers and thermal pools. The various colors in these mats are different types of Thermophiles which thrive at specific temperatures or have preferences for alkaline, acidic, or sulphiric enviroments. The enviroment determines the type of Thermophile that lives there and this diversity creates the colors you see. The color in this image is exactly as it was taken by my camera. It is not a macro image. At the top right, the turquoise color is the very edge of the thermal pool, the white border is mineral deposits and the brown and yellow and orange colors are the Thermophile living in a mat surrounding the pool. / This image has sold as a laminated print and a matted print 3 times through RedBubble. /

  • I was totally in Awe as these beautiful birds flew overhead yesterday evening shooting in the Noosa Basin again.. I noticed them in the distance a few days back, with my earlier shots, and was determined to get these close. I didn’t manage to get too close unfortunately, but did snap this one. They come here in the evenings to hang out on a small dead tree. I will get these close one day soon :) Fingers crossed they hang around for a while. They have a beautiful “sing” call, rather than the other species of cockatoo seems to be more a “squark”.. Canon 50D, 400mm. Noosa Basin, Noosaville, Queensland. This was the last shot I managed to get with the 1/400 shutter, then most the captured were blurred due to low light. Available Large, best viewed large!

  • Backwater Sunrise
    by Steve Chapple

    US$4.99–US$114.00

Early morning three shot panorama – Noora Basin, between Berri and Renmark in the Riverland of South Australia. This backwater is an evaporation basin off of the River Murray. The main river itself looks nothing like this and still holds plenty of water to make a visit to the region well worth while. Nothing better – 6.30 am, first hint of sun, great clouds, colours and magnificent dead redgum trees standing silent. Who could want for more!!!!!!!! Canon 400D – 18 -55 lens, CIR polarising filter coupled with ND4. Tripod mounted three shot pano stitched in photoshop CS3.

In February 2009, this image placed third in the U.S. Parks Wildlife Shots challenge hosted by the AMERICA’s National Parks and WILDLIFE Habitat group. A thousand Yellowstone wonders are calling, ‘Look up and down and round about you! John Muir – 1898 The temperatures were in the single digits on this cold, snowy January morning at West Thumb Geyser Basin, which is one of the smallest geyser basins in Yellowstone. A incredibly scenic area along the shore of Yellowstone Lake, West Thumb only has a small amount of geyser activity. However, the basin more than makes up for it with its diversity. Despite its small size, it has paint/mud pots, hot springs, pools, lake shore geysers, and fumaroles. Fumaroles are small openings that release steam and other gasses. You can see in the foreground the muddy, soupy waters inundating the paint pots. The white area beyond the tree line in the right hand side of the photograph is Yellowstone Lake. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please don’t copy or download this image. • Noosa Basin - Wetlands
    by Adam Gormley

    US$4.16–US$95.00

After quite sufficient rain over the last week in Noosa, it was good to see the blue sky, and sunset. The wetlands in the Noosa basin were higher than normal, making for some spectacular scenery :) The trees are mostly paperbarks in the Noosa Basin, and some hardy salt and sand resistant species of pine. Canon 50D, 10mm. Noosa Basin, Noosa Heads, Queensland.

  • Bristle Cone Pine Wave
    by Mark Ramstead

    US$3.99–US$91.20

In Great Basin National Park in Nevada you can take a short hike to these pine trees. We got there as the sun set and time was short, but I liked this one.

  • Taken on the trail to “The Basin” on Friday October 3/08. Nikon D40, Nikkor 18-55mm lens. / The Basin is a naturally occuring granite bowl in the White Mountains range and is part of the Franconia Notch State Park, located in the heart of the popular White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire USA / On this trail are cascades and waterfalls leading to The Basin, which is believed to have been eroded 15,000 years ago while the North American ice sheet was melting. The Basin has been smoothed by small stones and sand, whirled around by the Pemigewasset River. / I didn’t make it as far as The Basin this time (have been there in the past), because I was caught by surprise in an unexpected downpour. I quickly shoved my camera into the case and wrapped my sweater around it. Then looked for my friend Wanda who was nowhere to be found. She had made it all the way to The Basin ahead of me. I was lucky to find cover under the roof of an outhouse at the beginning of the trail. It rained and hailed for about 20 minutes. When my friend Wanda made it back, she was soaking wet. This is one of two shots I managed to get. ! • Green Tree Snake
    by Adam Gormley

    US$4.16–US$95.00

This little guy is the very first wild snake I handled, I knew he was not venomous, and when I caught sight of him in the noosa basin on one of my frequent trips there, I was so happy to get a chance to play with a wild snake, and photograph him in the wild. Was actually on the outskirts of the basin, in a park in Noosaville. Hunting mostly frogs and some reptile/bird eggs, they are excellent tree climbers, as their name suggests :) Canon 50D, Noosa Basin, Noosaville Queensland. Available Large!

  • My friend and Estes Park neighbor, Shiloh and Me on the Wild Basin Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park yesterday. The whole area was snowpacked and beautiful. We did have to pay attention and stay in the middle of the trail….or…...as you can see, if we even stepped off a little to the side, we would sink up to our knees! It was a fun day…. :-)

  • A great turnout of Redbubblers met at Gladesville Mental Hospital this morning for some photo opportunities. I love this old basin (not the first old washbasin to pop up in my portfolio!!!) in one of the delapidated buildings. Thanks to Philip and Kaz for organising the day. Gladesville Mental Hospital (formerly Tarban Creek Lunatic Asylum) operated from c.1838- Surviving records cover c.1822-1985 In 1838 the lunatic asylum was moved from Liverpool to Tarban Creek, Gladesville and the first patients were transferred from Liverpool Asylum and the Female Factory, Parramatta. It accepted patients from Victoria up until 1848 when the Yarra Bend asylum was opened. By the mid 1960s the institution was known simply as Gladesville Hospital. In 1993 premises at Gladesville Hospital and Macquarie Hospital were revoked as hospitals, and were amalgamated to form the Gladesville Macquarie Hospital. This image was captured in the middle of the Atchafalaya basin. It was an uneventful day, birds weren’t around and the fish weren’t biting. Then this little guy showed up. He just popped up next to my boat, let me setup, and stayed around for a few shots. Canon 40D / Canon EF-500mm / 1/100s f/5.6 iso800
