Recent pahoehoe lava on the Big Island, Hawaii, fractured as it cooled. Glassy surface layer above, more vesicular below. Edges are razor sharp, if you fall it gets ugly!
Long abandoned, long gone, we the trees still alive. We are the last ones, we refuse to die. A place that only lives on a map. No one knows why it is still on the map, all humans have forsaken us. We are but a turn in the road a crossroad where even Beelzebub refuses to trade Souls. We shall keep living, a reminder to those who have gone and to give last hope to the future.

Burney creek and undeground volcanic springs meet to form this beautiful 129 foot waterfall within the North Cascade range and the Modoc Plateau natural region of northern California. The water emerges as springs at and above Burney Falls, where it flows at 100 million gallons every day and creates a peaceful mist-filled basin.

Ok…another Fingal shot. I can really say that this is one of my top 5 locations. Just love the versatility it provides. This shot has been PP using CS3 tilt shift technique. If you need explanations how that works you best ask Mel ...hehe / Let me know what you think? / Make sure you check the colour version too

The low tide reveals a lot of the volcanic basalt outcrops of the area. (South of Depoe Bay, Oregon USA) Cape Foulweather is a basalt outcropping 500 feet above the Pacific Ocean on the central coastline of the U.S. state Oregon in Lincoln County south of Depoe Bay. The cape is notable as the first promontory on the northwest coast of New Albion (as the area was then known) to be sighted and named by Captain James Cook, while on his third voyage around the world. His March 7, 1778 journal entry reads: The land appeared to be of moderate height, diversified with hill and Valley and almost everywhere covered with wood. There was nothing remarkable about it except one hill…At the northern extreme the land formed a point which I called Cape Foulweather from the very bad weather we soon after met with. Fingal’s Cave, on the island of Staffa off the west coast of Scotland (near Mull and Iona), is a sea cave formed within Tertiary basalt lava flows which have cooled to form hexagonal columns (like those of the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland). There is a path in on one side which involves stepping from the top of one column to the next. The cave stretches 250 feet in to the rock and its roof is 70 feet above the sea. Fingal’s cave was the inspriration for Mendelssohn’s Hebridean overture. CANON A-1 / CANON FD 80-210mm Multimap Reference
