  • Stand & Deliver
    by Shanina Conway

    US$4.48–US$102.60

Stand & Deliver Mixed Media, lots of layers and textures. / Moll Cutpurse is the only highway women I’ve found any reference to although I’m sure there were more…probably too smart to get caught;) Moll Cutpurse’s real name was Mary Firth, a bit of a tomboy, always ready for a rumble and happiest in the company of men. / Sources on her history are a little conflicting but she was a bit of a roguette and after pulling a big job on a Lord, brided her way of goal and the business finding it safer to work as a fence…..a fascinating character from the early 1600’s. Von kindly posted this wonderfully fitting poem / The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees, / The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas, / The road was a ribbon of moonlight, over the purple moor, / And the highwayman came riding- / Riding-riding- Available as a framed print, matted print, poster and card. Thank you to Marcus Ranum for the beautiful model. Nala kindly bmailed more info on Moll Cutpurse for history buffs

  • Belvedere Palace
    by ~ Selle

    US$3.99–US$91.20

A summer palace in Vienna Austria. The Belvedere palace began as a suburban entertainment villa: in 1714 work began to erect what is now called the Lower Belvedere, not as a palace but as a garden villa, with an orangerie and paintings gallery, with suitable living quarters. The architect was Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt, one of the most important architects of the Austrian Baroque, who produced in the complex of buildings his masterwork. Since 1775, the Belvedere has housed the imperial picture gallery on behalf of Joseph II, and in 1806 the collection of Ambras Palace was moved to the Lower Belvedere as well. Both were transferred to the Museum of Art History (Kunsthistorisches Museum) in 1890. The last to reside here was Archduke Franz Ferdinand. National Heritage site. • San Lorenzo at Night
    by Anthony Vella

    US$3.99–US$91.20

On Sunday, August 10th, 2008, is the Feast of San Lorenzo (St. Lawrence). It also marks the 1750th Anniversary from the Saints Martrydom. The Feast is celebrated in the old City of Vittoriosa, in Malta and in the Village of San Lawrenz in the sister Island of Gozo. The Church in the picture, dedicated to Saint Lawrence, is the one of Vittoriosa. Vittoriosa is one of the oldest parishes in Malta. The original Church served as the Conventual Church of the Order of St John before the building of Valletta, and St. John’s Cathedral. The present Church was built between 1681 and 1697 and was designed by Malta’s most prominent Baroque Architect, Lorenzo Gafa. It is a fine example of Roman Baroque.

  • Trompenburgh Castle
    by theBFG

    US$3.66–US$83.60

a peculiar wooden castle near the dutch town of hilversum, built in 1672 by the dutch naval hero cornelis tromp. Built on the site of a medieval stronghold, destroyed by the french, this palace was built to resemble a ship. Indeed it seems to float on the water.

baroque – information provided by wikipedia:

In the arts, the Baroque was a Western cultural epoch, commencing roughly at the turn of the 17th century in Rome. It was exemplified by drama and grandeur in sculpture, painting, literature, dance, and music. In music, the term 'Baroque' applies to the final period of dominance of imitative counterpoint, where different voices and instruments echo each other but at different pitches, sometimes inverting the echo, and even reversing thematic material.
