MY FAVORITE COUNTRY ROAD / Best viewed large. / / / / “MY FAVORITE COUNTRY ROAD” was featured in the group COUNTRY ROADS/AROUND THE WORLD / / / / “MY FAVORITE COUNTRY ROAD” was featured in the group NATURAL COLOR AND LIGHT / / / This is a recent photo of my favorite country road! It is located in Flatwoods, Kentucky, in Greenup County, which lies in the northeastern part of the bluegrass state. Many of my relatives live in or just outside of Flatwoods, and my Dad built this one. / / The scenery from this road is almost surreal, it is so beautiful. Surrounding this road are country farms, barns and old churches. This road winds around a gorgeous mountain cloaked with a variety of lush trees and evergreens, whose leaves are radiant in the Fall of the year with brilliant shades of yellow, orange, red, brown and green. / / At the top of the mountain is the end of this magnificent road, which leads to a private, gated mansion that overlooks the entire county. It is very quiet and peaceful there, and everything, including time, seems to stand still on this beautiful road. Taken in the town of North Orwell, PA on 01/19/2009 along route 187. A Canon 50D camera edited in PS and HDR. Lastly, I did the Orton layer. It’s no longer used for farming. Hopefully it won’t end up totally neglected.

Ok so I have been trying to get a decent shot of this barn for months now. I finally am pleased. This barn is huge and sits right off of 95th st in Lafayette CO. Best Viewed Full Size Our rural heritage of small family-owned farms is teetering on the edge of extinction, so they tell us, and as I drive the haunts of my childhood the visions of what were commonplace years back are slowly falling into disuse and disrepair, or worse, being replaced by subdivisions. It’s always a joy to discover another one … no matter what condition it’s in. Image take in Davidsonville, Maryland on May 21, 2009 with the Nikon D40x and the 18-200mm vr Nikon/Nikkor lens with the cp filter. Post processing lncluded hdr from a single hand-held image at +/- 2 eval, no tripod. Sky darkened in Photoshop.

Much Better Full Size! I love it when the titles I think up can work as double entendres. In this case this gorgeous empty barn … and the farm itself, I guess … do seem to be Finished … cloned off to the left rear is a housing development. It could also refer to the job of plowing and seeding … which, unless these are weeds (are they?) is Finished. But the title also refers to the fact that I’ve mucked around with this shot so much … and it has so many names in my computer (I tend to try to include what processes I used on a shot in its name) ... that last night when I did this version, the only thing I put to the end of the loooooong image name … was … “Finished.” And so, it stuck!! Original image taken just up the road from our house on April 6 of ‘09 in Montgomery County, Maryland, with the Nikon D40x and the 18-200mm vr Nikon/Nikkor lens. Photoshop cloning out of distractions and 2 duplicates created, Photomatix HDR from a single, hand-held image, dups at -/+2 eval, Photoshop for the addition of a texture, then into Paint for some blending.

Best viewed full size Driving off of the main road of 869 between Pavia and Osterburg, Pennsylvania on January 20, 2009 … a fine snow began to fall. As I climbed the hill the barn to my right caught my attention. After snapping some images of the barn, the resident came out to greet me. What a sweetheart!!!!! Image taken with the Nikon D40x and the 18-200mm vr Nikon/Nikkor lens. Shutter speed 1/640, aperture f/5.6, exp minus .33, iso 400. This image is a 20-80% blend of the original photo … with some distractions cloned away … and an hdr of the same image … created from the original, hand held, and two duplicates at +/- 2.5 eval.

Best On Full Size This image was taken at The Keystone State – Pennsylvania group’s recent shoot in Lancaster County, PA (near Manheim) at BreakAway Farms. One of the great things about this shot, for me, is that my Dear Hubby (who came along YAY!) actually found this little bottle and placed it on the window sill for me. He even named the shot. The bottle is from the wedding of the owner of the farm … 6 years previous. It eventually gathered quite a crowd … this is Ann, Mike and Eric all working to get just the right perspective!!!! The bottle image taken on the morning of August 8, 2009 with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens. Shutter was at 1/50, aperture f/13, exp. 0.00, iso 400. Best on Full Size As we leave the top of Blue Knob mountain heading toward Claysburg my eye is always taken by this beautiful farm between Pavia and Claysburg on State Forest Highway (3003). On this particular day, May 23, 2009, the clouds were outdoing themselves. Had to pull over and get this snap. I got a kick out of all the poofy dandelions happily propagating away in the foreground and trying to compete with the poofy clouds!! Taken with the Nikon D40x with the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens at 1/320 shutter and f/5.6 aperture. Exposure was set at minus .33 and iso was 200. Post processing included hdr from a single hand-held image duplicated twice to an eval of +/- 2 then run through Photomatix. Gave the old clone tool a workout as this beautiful scene is marred by a giant telephone pole and lots and lots of wires!!!

Best on Full Size Wandering around my cousin’s farm in Davidsonville, Maryland, I fell in love with so many images. This was taken from the inside of an old tobacco barn which we calculate to be well over a hundred years old. This image is a compilation of two shots, both my own. The barn image, RAW, taken on my Manfrotto tripod, was shot on a disappointingly gray and overcast October 29, 2009 with the Nikon D300. Shutter 1/500, aperture f/11.0, exp 0.00, iso 1600. Sky image, a hand held jpeg, was taken August 29, 2009 with the Nikon D300, shutter 1/640, aperture f/13, exp -.67, iso 400. Lens was 18-200mm vr Nikon in both cases. After the image was combined, I created an hdr in Photomatix by duplicating the jpeg to evals of +1 and -2 in Photoshop. Lots of Photoshop tweaking including addition of 2 textures. This image is a compilation of two shots, plus several textures. The barn is located in Montgomery County, Maryland, off of Gregg Road, and was snapped on October 28, 2009. The eagles were snapped on November 21, 2009 at the Conowingo Dam in Conowingo, Maryland. Both taken with the Nikon D300. Lens used on the barn was the Nikon 18-200mm vr, and the eagles with the Nikon 70-300mm vr. The combined image was duplicated in Photoshop to evals of +3, +1 and -1 and processed in Photomatix 3.2.6 as an HDR image. Textures and various blendings completed in Photoshop.
