Single poppy in a field of barley. I love poppies and look forward to many more appearing over the next few days.
Taken on a wet Sunday morning overlooking Barley Lake in West Cork near Glengarrif, Ireland.
Summer breezes waft gently over growing barley near Lubbesthorpe, Leicestershire, UK, whilst an old Oak tree holds its place in the hedgerow beyond, watching hundreds of years of constant change. Sadly, this scene may soon be lost under concrete and brick as the city expands further to cater for our seemingly complex needs.

On the walk from Siena to Lucignano in southern Tuscany there is a point where you come over a hill crest and are confronted by shapes, patterns, contrasts and colours so glorious you suspect a Hollywood director has been at work. Featured in Just Lines
It was such a lovely warm night I thought I would take take a stroll down the lane that runs by my house and see if I could find anything worthy of a shot. This is from a single RAW file processed twice in Bibble Pro and combined then finished off in PS7. Nikon D40 – Sigma 10-20mm + ND Grad

This plant grows mostly along the sides of the roads up on Rabbit Ears Pass. The lovely pinkish coloring and feathery texture is just so beautiful. / Kodak Z650 EasyShare Digital. / / Foxtail Barley – Hordeum Jubatum Foxtail barley is a prolific seed producer, with each plant capable of producing upwards of 200 seeds. Seeds are elliptical, yellowish-brown and about a ¼ inch long with four to eight awns. The seeds have sharp, backwards pointing barbs. Seed is dispersed by wind, machinery and animals and germinates in the cooler temperatures of the spring or fall. Seed germinating in the fall can overwinter and resume growth in early spring, giving Foxtail barley a competitive advantage over many crops. Germination is inhibited by warm temperatures and seeds require a period of darkness for germination to occur. Foxtail barley is a shallow-rooted plant with germination occurring at soil depths not greater than three inches. The seedling of Foxtail barley first appears as thin, vertical leaves covered in short, dense hairs. The leaves have prominent venation and rough margins, while auricles are absent or elemental and the membranous ligule is very short with fine hairs.
Taken with a Canon 50D, Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm, F11, shutter speed 1/400 second ISO400 tweaked in Photoshop Today we went for a walk in the wonderful Ribble Valley. The walk started in a small village called Barley, we then went around a couple of reservoirs, during the walk we had stunning views of Pendle Hill (557 metres, 1827 feet) which can been seen in the shot in the distance. As you can see this is a typical English summers day overcast and ready to rain at short notice!!! ;-) Please view large
This is one of the agrarian landscapes of the polder Schouwen (Netherlands) in my neighbourhood. / The evening sun shines on the ripe barley and on the background an imminent air is on arrival. / I have used a tripod and I have made 3 pictures with several exposures. / At home I have experimented with HDR (in PSP X2) and this is the result.
