Snow Gums can show a wonderful range of bark colours. This particular tree was a lovely red. The patterns in the peeling bark gave the impression a large, clawed animal has been scratching the tree. ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature
Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a powerful feeling of emptiness and isolation. Loneliness is more than just the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected and alienated from other people. The lonely person may find it difficult or even impossible to have any form of meaningful human contact. Lonely people often experience a subjective sense of inner emptiness or hollowness, with feelings of separation or isolation from the world. (Source: Wikipedia)

“The warning came too late…..no place to hide. We were down by the beach taking happy holiday snaps when the ocean started to recede. It took me a moment or two to realise what was about to happen. Everyone started to panic…..I could hardly hold a thought in my head with the sound of my heart beating and the adrenalin pumping through my veins. Then I remembered the cave we discovered at the end of the beach yesterday. That would be our only hope as we started to run. As we entered the cave I took one last look as the Tsunami hit….” Macro photograph taken from a palm tree, overcast day, camera set on aperture priority. Macro photography of bark, rocks and flowers are my passion. Always looking for that special ‘something’ thats a little bit different. Hope you enjoy my story and photograph!
Took this macro photograph with aperture priority, late in the afternoon, it was getting quite dark so I used a flash on this shot! Just love Palm tree bark, this one had been burnt at some stage creating the charcoal sections. I have a few more fascinating photos which I will be uploading soon! / My passion is macro photograhy. I love to find hidden landscapes and abstract art in the bark of trees or in rocks. I also am quite partial to macro floral photography! This photo was featured on the RedBubble Home Page 16th August, 2008. Featured in the Abstract Art group, 25th August, 2008 Barkscapes / / Rockscapes / /
This macro photograph of the bark of a Palm Tree creates a multi-dimensional abstract. The colors, textures and imagery within the materials are varied which leaves us wondering what is behind each panel. I am always interested in what you perceive? This was the first photograph to make it to homepage. I altered / the colors of the windows to create a more dynamic piece.

The Bateleur Eagle The Bateleur occurs throughout the savanna and open woodland regions of Africa south of the Sahara. In South Africa, the species once graced the skies of the Transkei, the Eastern Cape, the Karoo and the south Western Cape but sightings in these areas are no longer common. The Bateleur eagle eats carrion, reptiles, and small mammals like rats, / hedgehogs, squirrels or young hares. When attacking snakes, the bird raises its crest and spreads its wings. This, together with long, scaly legs, ensures that, should the snake strike, it will hit either feather or scales, neither of which will pass venom into the bird’s blood stream. The voice of the Bateleur eagle is quite distinctive. The most frequent consists of short repeated barks ‘kau-kau-kau’, followed by one or two long shouts of ‘koaagh’. In the wild this call is made while perched. Its scream of anger is completely different. 2006 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. In the lowveld wildlife reserves, where the Bateleur probably occurs at maximum density in an ideal habitat, it is quite numerous. Outside of protected areas, the Bateleur is vulnerable to poisoned bait. The birds have been eradicated from virtually all South African farmland due to indiscriminate attempts to control jackal.

The butterfly and birds were taken from my painting “Thoughts and Things” and the white flower is an old plastic earring….the teapot was given to me by my father who knows I collect tiny silver things like this…..from an op shop somewhere, thank you dad! The table is a cork! Once the Chunkies are created and photographed, I usually dismantle them to be used in the creation of more chunkies, so I am recycling the plasticine. These Chunkies have been very therapeutic to create over the holidays, whilst taking a break from red bubble and having my family around. I have many more to come, and although I won’t be on RB as much, I hope to also be doing some serious painting this year…so i look forward 2009 with much anticipation …

This surreal landscape is populated with a myriad of / disparate imagery, an expression of our first language, / primary process, the visual processing of the infant before / the symbols of language develop. The language of / the unconscious is universal and like music can be / shared with anyone regardless of our planet’s boundaries / that we refer to as countries. There would be so much / less hate, violence and war if these boundaries were removed / and we could join together as a united, not divided planet. / Great artists and musicians have expressed this hope through / their music. John Lennon’s Imagine is probably the best known song to express the wish for universal peace. The other phenemenol artist to write songs about the senseless / damage to our earth in “We are the World”, “Earth Song” / among many others was Michael Jackson. I am stunned / to write about this extraordinary and magestic performer and / humanitarian in the past tense. His recent passing has not / registered and the loss I feel is too profound to use words to express the deep feelings of sadness I feel about his tragic death. The lyrics in his poignant song, “Gone Too Soon” that Michael dedicated to the passing of Princess Diana play in my head as I struggle to deal with overwhelming / emotions as songs of his brilliant recordings flood my mind. / I know it will take time to heal the pain / as I journey through his troubled life reflected so candidly in his music. There are few people that are truly original and kindred spirits who touch our life with their profound spirit that is a gift that we treasure for a lifetime. / Now he is a gift to the / Universe and his message will continue to influence / all the generations that will benefit from his genuis. / Over the last few days, I took some photographs of tree / bark and as I scanned the tree to take the shot, I repeatedly saw his image. In this image, I see his face lying among a gathering of rust leaves (bottom center). I never imagined that my bark art photography would help me heal as various images appeared in new and surprising ways. Bosch and Bruegel, the Flemish painters of the15th century / influenced the Surrealists allowing us entry into / the contrasting juxtaposition of seemingly unrelated / images that derive from the personal and collective / unconscious. The closest language to express / imagery that does not depend on rational or logical / thought is poetry. One of my favorite poems, the deeply meaningful / Autumn Elegy was written by the spiritual poet Rumi and / after reading it again, I felt calmer as if a great spirit, a “strange autumn rose” had been released to rest in peace. / I want to share this poem with you, Autumn Rose Elegy, especially when dealing / with the loss of a loved one. Rumi’s beautiful words are especially meaningful / to me after choosing this poem to engrave on a friend’s ebony tombstone after she died several years ago. “You’ve gone to the secret world. / Which way is it? / You broke the cage and flew. / You heard the drum that calls you home. / You left this humiliating shelf, / This disorienting desert / Where we’re given wrong directions. / What use now a crown? / You’ve become the sun. / No need for a belt: / You’ve slipped out of your waist! / I have heard that near the end / You were eyes looking at soul. / No looking now. / You live inside the soul. / You’re the strange autumn rose / That let the winter wind in / by withering.” Autumn Rose Elegy / Rumi / Translation by Coleman Barks Please view this in the large format to appreciate / the imagery.
