Taken towards the end of a day at Balls Head, near Waverton in Sydney. The light was fairly flat all day except for this moment where it highlighted the trees beautifully. Angophora costata

This painterly photo has distinctive images. I see the profile of a horse’s head with a white and blue face on the left side and his nostril in the middle. Another striking eye with contrasting color is on the right. The pastel colors are quite striking with great lighting and vivid colors. The bark of trees offers us surprising imagery after focusing on the illustrations under the veneer of peeling bark. It is truly nature’s “secret canvas.” The blue horse looks like he might have a small tear in his beautiful blue eye considering the fate of his equine friends who have been abused, neglected and killed due to human consumption and greed. I am an active animal activist and donate any proceeds I receive from my photography to groups to preserve animals, both wildlife and domestic. I will upload an editorial I wrote on the crisis affecting Mustangs and have contributed to many organizations to stop the brutality and violence against these majestic creatures. I admire everyone who is active in fightening the cruelty that has victimized our precious wildlife with some species at great risk of extinction. Our planet’s ecosystem also is in great peril suffering the consequences of man’s destruction of the natural environment.

Great River Gum, / How i pass you by. / A daily ritual, / I have come to know. / Your wisdom permeates / The very land i dwell. / And reminds me, / My time on earth / Is temporary. / You are the reason / I seek, / The inspriation, / The passion. / As human there is / So much to learn. / You are ancient / Yet ageless. / Every season, / I learn / Something new / From you / Old Friend…. This textured and multi-layered abstract using bark is a good piece to project what you see in this vividly colored photograph. I often suggest images, but I thought this piece lended itself to your creative imagination and projections that like a Rorschach can elicit unconscious material. Like the 10 inkblots on a Rorschach, if you project images on 10 pieces, I can offer you feedback. A brief description of my experience using the Rorschach as a projective test is included in my biography. It also helps to tell a story about what you see. This piece shows best when viewed in the larger format. /

This was taken on a very foggy day at Long Cove near West Pennant, Nova Scotia, Canada. / / It was named “Cat Fish Blues” because it looks like the boat had jumped out of the water, and because of the feeling of sadness or loneliness it invoked in me. / / The image was originally shot in color, but due to the thick fog the color was quite muted, so I converted it to black and white using Photoshop, and then added a bit of texture via filters to give it a more vintage feel. This is available as any of the available product from Red Bubble and would be suitable as a framed print. / / Buying this print as a gift? Why not get a matching card to go with it? / /

“The search for food was becoming more difficult, the snow and ice lay thick on the ground making it difficult for scavenging. It was nearly nightfall and the temperature was dropping quickly. It was time to return to the cave…........” / /

Nature provides me with many materials to create my painterly abstracts. Given the myraid of imagery in bark, rocks, plants and other natural forms, sometimes I feel like the camera is my brush. Some of nature’s elements provide more hidden illustrations under the veneer of peeling park. This bark abstract is a good example. The small part of the tree that I photographed had great texture, colors and imagery to inspire your imagination. I am interested in your projections on this canvas and the more you look the more images appear. The first image I saw was a feline on the top center moving toward the right. There are usually faces like the large textured blue head on the far left and right. The large images usually pop out at me before I take the photograph and when I spend time looking at the smaller images, I see a microcosm of a village. Sally Omar’s poetic vision adds a wonderful dimension to this image. She is a gifted poet on RB and if you have not read her poetry, I highly recommend that your enjoy her eloquent words. Every tree tells a story..that is for sure / It shows me a picture and opens a door / A man on horseback is what I see / The horse in a raging fit on the tree / Not happy he saw a wolf on the lane / Afraid he might hurt him..in mental pain / The man tries to calm him but to no avail / He cannot get him to move on the trail / The horse eventually will calm down / The wolf will ignore him and walk around / The man will lovingly understand / Because the horse has a soul similar to man / Sally Omar /
