This Gaudi building in Barcelona typifies much of his architecture on display throughout the city. The room itself feels light, airy and extremelly calming. Featured in Unique Buildings of the World – June 2009 and Mood & Ambience February 2009
This was a flamenco dancer that we saw when we were in Barcelona, Spain. It was very dark in the theater, so I added some special effects. Other sets by Kara… / NATURE / LANDSCAPES / PEOPLE / POEMS / PORTRAITS / SPORTS / SUNSETS / TRAVEL / ARTISTIC WORK / BOUDOIR / OTHER
The colour here is pretty much accurate, if memory serves. Low clouds in late evening sky, lit from beneath…. street lamps sending out yellow incandescent lights across those unusually wide avenues. ... why do I suddenly feel like tapas...?
La Sagrada Família (Catalan, ‘The Holy Family’) is a large Roman Catholic basilica under construction in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Construction began in 1882 and its formal title is Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família. Antoni Gaudí worked on the project for over 40 years, devoting the last 15 years of his life entirely to this endeavour. On the subject of the extremely long construction period, Gaudí is said to have joked, “My client is not in a hurry.” After Gaudí’s death in 1926, work continued under the direction of Domènech Sugranyes until interrupted by the Spanish Civil War in 1935. Parts of the unfinished building and Gaudí’s models and workshop were destroyed during the war by Catalan anarchists. The design, as now being constructed, is based both on reconstructed versions of the lost plans and on modern adaptations.

A Street Mime – Las Ramblas. Barcelona – Spain.
I photographed this stairway while waiting for my friend at the elevator bank at the Hotel Astoria in Barcelona, Spain. I had noticed this stairway the night before when we checked in so while waiting that morning, I walked over to look at it from the top. Hence the result! This is the first in a series of three pictures inspired by our trip to Barcelona. It is loosely based upon Barcelona Cathedral. I started by copying in pencil the cathedral in a bendy style and then removed the photo so I wouldn’t be influenced by it any more.
This is the second in my series of three Barcelona designs. I must stress that they are based upon Barcelona and 90% imaginative. The initial inspiration for this picture was Lichenstein’s Face sculpture in Barcelona. I used acrylic and coloured pencils for this one. I ditched the gouache as coloured pencil doesn’t seem to sit well on top of it.
Phew … at last … I’ve completed my personal challenge .. to do three pictures based on Barcelona. For those interested in technique, I did the sky and clouds with acrylic and then finished the picture off using coloured pencils. I am slowly weaning myself onto acrylics, but I don’t think I will ever lose my love of coloured pencils :)
