  • Prakash’s parents are very poor – they own a small cart and eke a living selling earrings and necklaces out of glass and ceramic beads from the cart on the street. When I saw the cart and asked permission to take some shots – he dived into a bag and pulled out a bunch of clippings to show me with obvious pride that they had been featured in a number of newspapers. Another example I’ve tried to capture of happiness despite poverty. Wonder what the secret is…. Taken with Nikon D80 and 50mm f1.8 lens.

  • Brian is an unusual character, very intelligent but a little lost, searching for the meaning of life inside drugs and the bottle. I was taken by his unusual looks, great eyes and desire to hide behind as many piercings and beads as he could find, and wanted to bring out the amazing potential that I saw in him. This portrait was taken outside in natural light, I only managed to get a couple of shots before he put a wall up, but I’m really happy with this one.

  • My school had a day where we had to dress up in clothes from a protest era, there were many brilliant out fits put together from hippies, to communists to Apartheid protesters. My friend dressed up as a hippie and she was so colourful and covered in jewelry i had to get a shot. The colours and handmade top with all the jewelry made me think of the quote b Jackson Pollock, It doesn’t matter how the paint is put on, as long as something is said Model: Claudi Featured In Peace Love & Happiness Hippies

  • A Pwo Karen girl smiles at a friend while weaving cloth on a backstrap loom. She weaves for hours almost every day in her spare time, and it can take weeks to produce enough cloth for one dress. The process is very meditative. Once, all Karen girls living in the mountains of northern Thailand and Burma learnt how to gin, spin, weave and dye cotton. They produced their own clothing as well as clothes, shoulder bags and blankets for their family. Like many tasks in hilltribe villages, weaving is exclusively performed by females. Men and boys work with knives and axes, clearing forest, building houses, hunting, and weaving bamboo and rattan utensils. Karen women, however, also wield axes, as they are the chief gatherers of firewood from the forest near their village. Field work, out of neccessity, is shared by all. Although many Karen continue to weave and wear their traditional clothes, the influx of cheap commercial cloth and clothing is quickly undermining this milleniums-old skill. This candid shot was taken in southern Mae Hong Son province in the early 1980s with a Nikon FM2, nikkor 135mm lense and kodachrome slide film. Scanned at 7200 dpi and cleaned in photoshop and ACDSee Pro at 200%.
