It’s very cold. I could hardly feel my hands on my way home from work. Also, it is, as Grammy would say, Snowing to Beat the Band outside! Speaking of which, I got a warning of Danger, Falling Snow on my way home. Yeah. No kidding. Anywho, after snapping a few pictures of our Snow Season I drove on in Solitude – lonesome as a leaf without a tree. I got home and sat here in Solitude as well. That is, until I logged on to Yahoo messenger and talked to Ozjami , and MSN messenger to talk to Googa . Oh well! Well, in case I forget to send Season’s Greetings your way in a timely fashion, I wish Happy Holidays to you all.

find out more here there are a band I’ve seen countless times…because they rock! I mean rock, in the best possible way. Rock, croon, perform, entertain, fill the soul. Email me, I mean bmail if you want to join. ...and this is what they looked like in 2001 / If you want to hear what they’re like before you go-sounds a little different now! apparently, they got a bigger deal than the veronicas?! so catch ‘em before they’re bigger than ben hur.

She’s my brother’s girlfriend Lydia, and she’s extremely talented! She plays piano, and has a very powerful voice for her size & age. / Besides being in The Jallah Richards Band with my brother & two of their friends, she’s a songwriter. She’s written a lot of stuff, & actually released her debut CD this past summer entitled, “Grand Dreams”. If you’re interested, you can check her out here or on Myspace. / She wrote a few of the songs for/about my brother…One in particular she wrote about a girl they both know. She thought the girl was chasing after my brother, turns out she was chasing after his best friend! It’s the first song on the cdbaby website…Anywho…Yeah. That’s all I’ve got for now, because I’m tired & need to get to bed. Gramps has carpal tunnel surgery tomorrow on his other hand, & I’m driving him & Grammy. It’ll probably be a good five hours at good ol’ Grand View Hospital yet again! Oi.

Hi, just wanted to explain myself. I am an old Punk…my children….get embarrassed by my stories…that I still listen to hardcore music both old and new. Their friends seem impressed with my record..ops .. CD collection. I do have to get my Cd’s back from both my daughter and my son’s. As I am now a very respectable teacher at a very private (public in UK) school…I teach art. I spent all night listening to Radio Caroline when I was staying in Holland. When I was going to teacher’s college I was the only Punk there..I spent all my weekends in Melbourne at the Ballroom, in St Kilda with my friends watching what we referred to as ” The Little Bands” and also lots of the early Australian and overseas Punk and alternative bands. I saw the likes of the Saints, Split ENZ, The Boys Next Door and later Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, INXS, The Clash, POL, The CURE, The Fall, John Cooper Clark to name but a few. I think I was the only trainee teacher amongst the group. I remember a movie Dogs In Space Richard Lowenstein -later being made based on the scene, parties, lifestyle and one of the little bands we saw all the time, as we had friends in the band The Ears…. oh such a long time ago….. Now my 19 yr old daughter is going out with a heavy metal guitarist…..I have yet to be allowed to attend a gig…..they have been touring interstate….but are back again… maybe soon…...I will bring the Camera and see if I can add to the site…..Did have some fun in London in the mid 80’s as well but that is another story. Cheers Lesley

Welcome fellow RBers, redbubs, redbubble folk. One of the best writers (period, not just on RB) posted a little litany here – about the kinds of music that turns her fountain pen on and helps the words flow. Please check it out, there is eclectic mastery there. I am constantly trying to discover new music. Not new in the sense of how old it is, but new to me. What music moves you? Inspires you? Awakens your hidden (or not so hidden) dance freak? Add to her list, post it here – whatever you’d like. But I have a feeling, as with Bell’s list, I’m gonna find some new music to drown my creative synapses in… Lead on.

I have one shoot this weekend with 5 teens (girls and boys) who are pretending to be a band for me. This is a free shoot and just for fun. I’m trying to show my versatility to bands so that I may get some bookings from the locals musical groups. I’m actually really looking forward to this one even though its free. I think its going to be alot of fun hanging out with the kids and watching them be goofballs. Also we are doing lots of make-up, crimping hair, coloring hair, etc. Should be a real blast just before Halloween to pretend to be a band!! Oh and how bout this, I’m going to call their “band”: “Faux Fox”. Since everyone mispronounces “faux” (its “foe”, meaning fake) as “fox”, I just thought it would be fun to have my faux band have that name! Teehee! I was also approached by a teen of one of my husband’s co-workers and close friends of our family. She has two brothers and a sister. She asked me if I would do a shoot of the four of them for their parents for Christmas. She said that she doesnt have the money to pay for the session, but will pay for all the proofs to put in an album for their parents and for the prints. Of course, I said yes! I love this family and think its a great idea for them to give something like that to their parents. I talked to Luke (my husband) about this and he was very happy with it as well. So happy in fact that he suggested we do it for his other co-worker, who happens to be my hub’s bestfriend and our church pastor, as well. So I will be doing his two sons also for free. I’m ok with doing these few shoots for free as they will help with my portfolio anyway and they are friends of our family. Plus, I’m going to be making a profit on the prints that they buy, so thats good enough for this one. I am offering a Holiday Special to families and also an Engagement Couple special right now and have had LOTS of bites on that. Looks like I will be booked up all next month! I just need to solidify dates. Oh and one person asked if they could get a gift certificate using the Holiday Special for their grandparents, which I did agree to and am going to advertise now as well. Seems like folks are most interested in shoots with the fall colors or blooming flowers, so gift certificates seem to be a good idea at this point. So I’m busy busy busy! Can’t wait to get those photos out to see what you all think!!

I just finished with the fake band shoot. That was a lot of fun to work with those kids and get them all dressed up and take their pictures. They were all awesome!! Oh and they changed their name to RedDye40. Funny kids! All the photos plus some others of musicians and musical instruments can be viewed here But here are a few that are my faves: / RedDye40 / Serenade / Girlish Figures / RedDye40 on the Strip / I plan on using these photos and mocking up some promo type stuff. I’m hoping these pics can get me some business with local bands. Even if it doesnt, it was totally fun and I got a lot of good experience out of it. Plus, all these kids (or at least the ones that are not Seniors at the moment) are like, “I am totally using you for my senior pictures!!!” So I got business out of it anyway!

I listen to this song often while writing, or simply browsing the bubble. It gives me inspiration. I don’t think either it, or the band, are very well heard of, but I was lucky enough to trip over it while wandering around the internet. You may love it, you may hate it, but here it is: Ghost in the Morning Moon

The Beatles will always be known for their amazing and ground breaking contribution to music…and still years on they are extremely popular and continue to grow. I have always wanted to design something with the Beatles that stood out against the pack (ignoring this odd attempt) and I now know that I have made it happen with this fun design - After uploading this design about 1 month ago, it has received: * 12 sales * 71 comments * 25 favoritings * 2300 views I am so blown away from the support that design has had, and want to thank everyone who has commented, favourited this work and also kept up with me in this wild ride! If you have a design based on a band either a Parody or Unique design (no simple band shirts) then feel free to drop a link (no pics) here so others can see them! Keep designing, Diesel Laws

Allow me to preface this by saying some of you know me extremely well; some of you know me only by name. And I’m about to give you all the opportunity to know me a bit more. It will come as a great shock to many of you what I’m about to reveal; some of you will smile to yourself, shake your head and take it in stride. Others will fight the urge to run and possibly condemn me. I’m okay with that. So, here goes…. I adore the Jonas Brothers. / You will now have a three second pause to pick yourselves up off the floor. Okay. Sit down and get comfy because you’re about to get a good ol’ fashioned education that could very well turn into a tongue lashing a la Lorie style. No, I am not a fan of most pop music nor am I the intended audience for this band that has become the biggest pop sensation to sweep the world. That being said, I have the utmost respect for these three Jersey boys that came from nothing and climbed to stardom with their own blood, sweat and tears. Now for those of you that are sitting there tisking at me and rolling your eyes, shut up and listen for a minute because there are some things you should know before you pass judgement on me or the guys. (Quite frankly I don’t care if you pass judgment on me because if you do, you’re not much of a friend anyway but I digress.) These three brothers, Kevin (21), Joe (20) and Nick (16) do – contrary to popular belief – write all their own music and lyrics, play their own instruments and were NOT fabricated by a record label to generate dollars. These guys are the real deal. Now if you still want to sit there like a bulbous snob, feel free. Ironically I’m not here today to talk about their music. I want to talk about their generosity and giving nature – something that many people don’t know anything about. For instance, did you know that they have their own charity? It’s called Change For The Children and is meant “to support programs that motivate and inspire children to face adversity with confidence, determination and a will to succeed”. And did you know they donate a set percentage of their earnings to various non-profit groups? Yeah. They do. And did you know they’re constantly playing benefits to help raise money for different causes? Yeah, they do. One example of this is how they spent their Friday night this past weekend. Not out partying, not living it up like proper stars. They spent the evening in NYC doing a show to help homeless kids. They bussed in kids from shelters to come to the show for free and sent them all home with backpacks filled with school supplies, healthy snacks and pre-paid emergency cell phones. AND they raised over $18,000 for the Robin Hood Fund. When was the last time you did something like that? I know I never have. And this is far from the first time they’ve done such a thing. Last month Joe had a Fun Run in Texas to benefit the Special Olympics of Texas. Prizes were awarded to runners and over $20k was raised for the cause. Recently Nick spoke (twice!) in support of diabetes research funding in Washington – part of a series of appearances in his ongoing fight to raise awareness about Juvenile Diabetes. And over the course of their tour this summer they played softball to raise money for charity too – the “Road Dogs” raised over $22,000 from ten games! I could go on and on about the fundraisers they’re organized and benefits they’ve played but I’ll let you guys read about all that on your own – there’s a lot. (Or who knows – maybe I’ll write another one of these oh-so-enlightening little notes for you!) These guys do NOT have a lot of free time but this is the kind of stuff they choose to do with the free time they do have. I know there are other celebs that do it too, but they publicize it. It’s known. Everyone KNOWS about Angelina and her kids, Leo and his environmental work, etc. But honestly, what do you really know about the Jonas Brothers? If you’re anything like I was a year ago, not much. But hopefully I’ve enlightened you a little bit and perhaps even inspired you to learn a little more about them. They’re brilliantly talented, intelligent, GIVING people that deserve every single good thing that happens to them. Check ‘em out. Change For The Children / nickssimplewins.com

  • MY TOP TEN Favourite ALBUMS Of ALL TIME!
    by Vanessa Barklay

Following on the heels of MY TOP TEN Favourite SONGS Of ALL TIME...

Following on the heels of MY TOP TEN Favourite SONGS Of ALL TIME I have compiled MY TOP TEN Favourite ALBUMS Of ALL TIME! A hard list to compile I went on things such as complete album listenability meaning how much of the whole album I liked, looking for nearly 100% on them all, how many times I can listen to it before I get sick of it, how much I liked each song, which I had to like nearly all the songs alot so here it is… MY TOP TEN Favourite ALBUMS Of All Time #10 – Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd / A brilliant album, who doesn’t like it? Although I haven’t had a chance to watch The Wizard Of Oz with it yet! Much better on CD than the old album, the CD lets you hear it in one go and sounds amazing even today, ageless…Time is a fantastic song and as the CD ends with Brain Damage and Eclipse and winds down you know you have experienced something very, very special. #9 – Van Halen – Van Halen / An early Van Halen album oozing with the energetic freshness of late 70’s rock with the showman David Lee Roth at the microphone this album is pure guitar heaven, a mad version of (Yeah..)You Really Got Me and the fun Ice Cream Man make this album a top ten! #8 – The Blues Brothers Soundtrack / Love this! An assortment of excellent music – from Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and oldies like Cab Calloway doing Minnie The Moocher, you can see the film in your head when you listen to it which makes it extra great. #7 – The Honeymoon Is Over by The Cruel Sea / Top top Australian band and album, this album has many instrumental tracks that surprise you without the vocals of Tex Perkins, when Tex does sing his songs just rip at you with his deep, drawly, bad boy voice, cannot recommend it highly enough. #6 – Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap by AC/DC / I like AC/DC with Bon Scott alot and of the long running life of AC/DC I go back to the raw, early sound of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap for a great overall album, songs like Dirty Deeds, Jailbreak and of course Big Balls place this CD at #6 on my list. #5 – Best of…Guns n Roses / I wasn’t going to choose a Best Of album but I couldn’t help myself because this CD is just so damn good! Gunners had some great songs you all know and this CD has them all plus others like Ain’t It Fun? Civil War, If I Don’t Have You…I can listen to this all day…and all night…and all day again, loud, don’t forget the LOUD on this one…. #4 – Reload – Tom Jones / Yes people, Tom Jones is #4 on my list, why? Cause it is an awesome CD! This is Tom doing duets with some rockin’ bands and singers, he does the Lenny Kravitz tune Are You Gonna Go My Way? with Robbie Williams, Lust For Life with Chrissie Hynde and my personal fave that he does with The Cardigans (LoveFool) is the Talking Heads classic Burning Down The House, then there is Mama Told Me Not To Go…Sunny Afternoon…a real fab assortment of songs belted out by the magical voice of Tom Jones and friends! #3 – String Of Pearls – Deborah Conway / This is a brilliant album, I love the whole thing and never tire of her wonderful voice and the heartfelt songs she rocks and mellows to…an Australian singer she had an earlier brilliant song with Man Overboard, this has the same bitter emotion but loosened up so you feel every song as your own. Excellent album! #2 – Short, Sharp, Shocked by Michelle Shocked / Michelle Shocked is a Texan and this was released 20 years ago now when she had some radio success but generally you don’t hear of her, which is a darn shame because her music is fabulous. Somewhere between light bluesy country rock with feeling, songs like Anchorage, Memories Of East Texas, Run To Gladewater can’t help but make you feel like moving, this was the 1st CD I ever bought to replace an album. #1 – Special Forces by Alice Cooper / I love Alice Cooper, always have, always will, my first album I ever bought was From The Inside back in 1980 after watching How You Gonna See Me Now? on Countdown and deciding this music was for me. Alice Cooper is brilliant, I mean BRILLIANT, his lyrics are sarcastic, serious, mocking, rocking and fun!! This is not that well known an album but Special Forces by Alice Cooper is my favourite album of ALL TIME!! So do yourself a favour and grab a copy, sit back and listen to Alice at his best, I hope you liked hearing about MY TOP TEN Albums, a bit of everything in there, a hard list to compile, that was my TOP TEN Favourite ALBUMS Of ALL TIME! Thanks, / Vanessa :O)
