I went for a hot air balloon ride a couple of weeks ago – it’s quite the way to travel. I was surprised by the accuracy of the ‘steering’. The wind direction varies with altitude, so the pilot took us up and down into different air currents to control our direction. We landed within a few hundred metres of the target – after a 20km flight. Mind you, we did crash into a tree during the landing. This is an image looking into the ballon from the basket.

I was in Snow Mass near Aspen, Colorado, for Balloon Glow. At dusk the balloons were inflated. The crowd counted down and all the balloons were lit up at the same time. It was a spectacular scene with the storm clouds moving in. The clouds lit up with the glow. This was the culmination of a wonderful evening which included some of the best barbeque I’ve ever had.

This illustration was inspired by the Rolling Stones song “Paint it Black”. Its also a completely unintential Red Bubbly illustration. but hey who doesn’t love a red balloon.. oh, I guess this girl doesnt.. : )

This was done as a small “in between” thing while taking breaks from revision. My friend Coolness Bears (who has an account here but doesn’t actually make any art =P ) suggested I draw a teddybear on a balloon. So here it is! / As always, if any tweaks are needed, let me know! Kind of reminds me of my Freedom drawing (girl on a balloon), which I hadn’t thought about at first. Done from scratch in Illustrator. Small design available here. /

Pen and ink drawing of a Clown holding a red balloon. This goes with Clown Dog my pink poodle. Except the leash he was holding was replaced by a red balloon all changes made in photoshop handdrawn. I will put out both versions at a later time.

Exactly one week ago today I was sat outside on a very cold and windy day timekeeping for a cycle race and watching and listening to these guys as they sat sheltered from the wind singing Christmas songs and bringing joy to this cold morning… / Today, all over the world people here on Redbubble have been asked to release a red balloon in Memory of Axel Matthew Moore. I have been deeply touched by the events of the past week and my heart and thoughts go out to Sarah, Glenn, Meg, Zoe, Ty and family today and in a roundabout way this is my red balloon for you all. / Memories of those close to us and sadly departed will never be forgotten and always bring warmth and joy to our hearts, as did the warm singing on this cold morning… Rest in peace little Axel.. this is for you and those close in my heart. / Paul. / Riyadh, Saudi Arabia / 28th December, 2007
