Emily, studio dance, 2007
“To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful. This is power, it is glory on earth and it is yours for the taking.” ~Agnes De Mille One of the ballerinas at the ‘Move Me’ Shooters Gallery event, thanks to Producer/Art Director Alateia. Thanks to John Robb for the use of his camera for this shot too.
Inspired by Degas, Pastel work.
Dance / Dance like nobody’s watching, love like you’ve never been hurt, sing like nobody’s listening and live like it’s heaven on earth. / attributed to Mark Twain. Around 7 years of age I entered the Madame Borovansky School of Ballet. / where you were taught the Russian style of classical ballet, It was strict, disciplined and often fearsome for a child but the company produced most of Australians greatest ballet dancers. This is a collaboration with the incredible photographer Paul Louis Villani. I love his work so much I think I will do another one! All profits from the sale of this pic from red bubble go to the Fred Hollows Foundation.
This work was inspired by the wonderful poem UMBRELLA of the very talented artist ANAISNAIS / Thank you Anna-Marie for let to share this beautiful poem here. ’’ UMBRELLA / / by Anaisnais There she stands / Centre stage for all to see / Tall and slender / Precariously she balances. I reach out for her / Draw her to me / My hand skims her body / Slowly reaches her skirt. Playful fingers find hidden areas / Delighted her legs spring forth / Displaying the very beauty / Of her delicately placed, adorned skirt. Gaily she dances around / Dizzily twisting and turning / In the brightness of day shading / She gently tends to my needs. Personal ballerina takes to toes leaping / Merrily bobbing up and down / As emotional to her performance / Clouds cry a thousand tears for her. Reaching our destination / Slightly shaken, she leans / Watches me, / Quietly drips, against the wall. Reminiscent of the day’s fulfillment / We acknowledge one another, silently / Restful knowing we shall be / One, once more. ’’ I truly appreciate all your kind comments and support. / All Origional art work can be purchased through the artist. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-——- Copyright notice: / All rights reserved. Two pairs of graceful and elegant legs. Taken with Canon 1Dmk2 using 70-200 f2.8L @ f5 1/30 ISO 800.
Special thanks to Jolanta for the use of her wonderful photo. Pure watercolour on Arches 140lb Not paper, W/N paints…. I try to capture just enough to show what I see and feel in the subject, and to capture the light. ...Whenever possible I aslo try to paint without a sketch, or very little at all…I find the end result much fresher and less restricting..

Fourteen photos were used in this photo manipulation, and it took seven hours to create. With this piece, I wanted to create something elegant but also meaningful. There are connections between all things in our lives. Our parents and ancestors connect us to other people. Our regions, schools, clubs, workplaces and even Internet groups connect us to others. Life connects us to one world, death to another. One day, we will be dust. We are connected, rooted, to these and many other parts of our existence. For less expensive high quality prints of this photo, click here This is from a really fun shoot I did with a dancer from my dance class and some baby powder. I wanted to do some ballet portraits but I wanted to do something different from the classic portraits you see of most dancers. I had originally bought the baby powder to spread in the air to create a hazy feel to the photos, but we quickly realized that the powder wouldn’t stay in the air long enough so I had her experiment with throwing it.

At the right time of day, the skylights wash odd corners of the studio with a pale gold light – makes for some nice effects.
