I came very close to him today, without him flying away. Taken at my workplace in Port Hardy, BC, with my DMC FZ-50.
Went to the Native American Pow Wow this weekend and the Eagle was part of the closing ceremony.
The American Bald Eagle is by far the most symbolized bird of prey that has ever existed, thus my objective was to simply take a photo to which would accurately depict the defining characteristics as to why this is so. Although it took many, many shots, I believe I successfully captured what I was trying to convey: strength, vision and nobility of what is the American spirit. – Dennis

This bald eagle has just “kicked off” from the little island of kelp where it was perched in a small bay on Vancouver Island. Bald Eagles are common here, and easily photographed. Image captured using a Nikon D300, Nikkor 600 mm lens with 1:4 teleconverter, ISO 400, f7.1, 1/640s handheld, and stabilized on a beach log while crouched.
I put this one up just for fun….I think he is a pretty handsome guy!

Featured in Dimensions, Nirvana, Canadiana, Eagles Only, and 300+ Go Long. In this fourth shot of my bald eagles’ nest series, the mother bald eagle has just joined her two young at the end of the day. The whole family sleeps together in two large coniferous trees. In the two weeks I have been shooting and observing at the nest, “dad” always arrives last at the end of the day. Soon the young fledged eagles will be on their own, completely abandoned by their parents. In this shot, she is certainly giving me the eye, as she hides herself within the protective bows of fir tree next to the nesting tree. Captured on the Fraser River in Delta, British Columbia, using a Nikon D300 and Nikkor f4 600 mm lens, on a Gitzo tripod, ISO 640, -0.33 EV, f4, 1/100s.

A wild Bald Eagle.
This eagle strolled right up to us on the dock, i think it was hoping for a hand out.
This is my all time best selling image and winner of the 2008 camera club show. 8 mature and 1 immature bald eagles sitting on the old cruise ship dock.
