Legends of mermaids and a fantasy fairy named One Fairy are the theme of a story I am writing for my “Mermaid Baby” series. I am stuck though in some ways when I ask the question, does art need tragedy to be good? It the story is to be good it needs some drama. Right? I used to ONLY paint sad things, write sad things… because I WAS sad. People would ask me why everything I painted was so sad. I used to ask back, “What is interesting about happy?” To a certain extent I still believe that, that happiness painted or written without some sort of tragedy is pathetically boring. Yet… I have painted these very ‘hopeful’ little paintings and have come a long way since the work I used to do that was only sad. Real and honest emotion is something people seek out and yet when they find it they often become afraid of it. Does it remind them of something? Or…? Art feels separate to me in some ways from my day to day goals of making my life happy. I wish I could tell you what that means to me.. it is perplexing to me as well. Yet.. if you went to a movie would you expect some sort of drama, some reason for the hero to enter? I think maybe tapping into the past brings those dramas, that dark and perhaps gothic side to create art with passion. The everyday must be filled with seeking out happiness and embracing that side of us that enters into a world that is livable… lest we become like Zelda Fitzgerald or Camille Claudel, swallowed up by the very gift we tried to embrace. OH! art with all of its fragile dichotomies! And you? Do you agree with me? Feel like I am full of it or have a completely different stance altogether? Legends of mermaids, pixie fairies and fantasy fairies, should they know the same drama in order to understand ‘hope’ more? Can I put my baby mermaids, my water babies in danger? Humm not sure about that, at least now sure just how much danger. I am working on all of this in any case and considering what I want my mermaids and fairy’s to convey. Since I do not have Corel Photopaint on my computer (the newer computer) and it is, occasionally, driving me mad, I’ve been going about on the internet and trying out different free, or free to try, art programs. These were done with a site called Aviary.com, which has at least three program thingies that one can use. It’s not as fun, mind, as Corel Photopaint, but, it would make an interesting addition, in some respects. Providing the links are working correctly, you should be able to click on the images and be taken to where you can make comments on my works or browse about the site in general. I’ve also saved a couple of images, ostensibly the same but with some few marked differences, that I created but did not upload back to the site. I’ll save those for use at a later time, when I get my Corel Photopaint back. Also, my sister came out – who is a bit of a hardbutt when it comes to liking artwork, and she said my painting, the same one I’ve been moaning about, is fabulous. She especially likes the frog. Cool, eh? Well it is, because I am starting to feel more enthusiastic about the painting, myself. My son and his friend, who took a few years of art in school, think I should change the cloud behind the ladies head. I’m undecided. I could see how to do it, and why to do it, and I had considered it an option before they said bupkiss about it. Only, see, their main objection is that it gives too much focus to that part of the painting, and then people only notice the frog and such inadvertently, later on in life. Which is valid, to a point; but: 1) I want it to be that way! I want people to notice the woman and the cloud and all, and then notice all the water weirdness later, even though the woman and the sky are not the predominant part of the picture and even though the woman is opposite a sun that is huge. looming, and detailed more than most anything else in the painting, really! Or, it was. ANyway, huge and bright! And , 2) My sister noticed the frog just about straight off! For those of you who are just tuning in, or have forgotten, that would be this painting: which is absolutely a “real” painting – not a digital bone in it’s body, unless you count a mild alteration of a face that has,since,been obliterated and replaced with a painted one! In fact, it all started out as a crayon drawing from years ago, so,all that is digital is that it has been scanned, photographed, and uploaded! Yep, I may start feeling up to working on it, again, and soon. Which, come to think of it, I still haven’t finished this one either: Artwork in Progress, though I have gotten a lot further on it than you can see via the blog post. Anyway, outside of that I finally got to watch a good bit of Quark after waiting approximately 31 years, that’s all I have to say!

As you may have noticed, I have not been around much. Please, tell me you noticed? I’ll cry,otherwise! Anyway …. For those of you who do not know, my daughter was having problems with her husband. So, she decided to take her daughter and go and visit her father for a while, think over the marriage and give him time to do the same. He insisted that she leave their daughter with him, because he said he was afraid that she wouldn’t come back, otherwise. So, that’s what she did. Shortly after she left, he got arrested. His mother had the baby at that point. Which was alright, ostensibly, since Morgan gave her $200, actually a little more, to help take care of said baby. They were all living together. Her mother-in-law then tricked her son into signing away his rights to his daughter (told him it was temporary, but the papers say permanent guardianship), called my daughter and tried to force her to agree to do the same – and when she refused to sign any such papers, threatened her with CPS waiting at the house to have her arrested and told her she is not allowed to come back to Arizona until she is 18. Well, this delayed my daughter in returning, as some research needed to be done, regarding if CPS, indeed, was doing any such thing. They were not. She came home and tried to get her daughter. The first time we went to the trailer, the Sheriff’s deputy told us that the m-in-l already had full legal custody of the baby. that she had papers signed by a judge. So, we looked up the records online and saw that there were guardianship papers filed, of some sort. Took us a while to prepare a response, go to the courthouse, and there we found out she had lied off her ass to the Sheriff’s Deputy. She had no right to refuse to let my daughter have her child, at that point – and she wouldn’t even let her see her daughter! We asked! Anyway, to make a long story short, despite the fact that all my daughter did was pay someone who lived in the house, and who was family, to help the father of the child watch her, and went to visit her dad, CPS has taken custody of her daughter, due to the allegations that she has abused and abandoned her daughter. They are taking the word of a woman who was arrested for custodial interference before, when she tried to steal another granddaughter from a different son. They are also misquoting a report I made that was about that woman and her sons, and my fears for my granddaughter and my daughter, and saying, in court, that I am the one that made a report that my daughter abused her daughter. So, at this point, if my daughter does not find a suitable home, a job, attend parenting classes, and a whole lot else, within 6 months, and that includes participating in visitation with her daughter, all parental rights will be severed. Pretty harsh penalty for visiting your dad, huh? Well, CPS is supposed to be referring her to services. They were told that she lives in Tucson – that her name was still on the lease to the address that the m-i-l lives at. Despite that, they opened the investigation out here, not in there. Then, when we tried to tell them about the m-i-l and her past history, they said “We are not here to discuss her, we are here to discuss you” to my daughter. So, the m-i-l told them things about my daughter, but, they are not willing to listen to WHY she is acting that way – even though she was arrested for trying to steal a grandchild before, even though she stole her children from their fathers (who had legal custody) before, even though there is no discernible record of her children going to school, and even though she is on SSD for something and yet she can MOVE, so it must be mental. They don’t care – they don’t want to hear it. They want to give this mentally ill, child abusing woman, her granddaughter to adopt. My daughter now has more like 4 months to get things done. They have not referred her to anything. In fact, the other day they called and told us they were trying to get a hold of us – despite the fact that they had two phone numbers and physical addresses by which to do so, and someone was home at both of them, the entire time! – and now that they finally did, they needed an address in Tucson, so the case could get transferred to Tucson. I gave them my sister’s address and phone number, again. They told me they already had it, though they lied and said we gave them the wrong space number before. My sister is the one that told me they are lying about it, because they called her to verify it, the FIRST time it was given to them. In other words, they are purposely dicking around, because my daughter is the one who has the 6 month time limit, not them. If she gets nothing done, she loses her baby, even if it is their fault because they never referred her to services when they know she hasn’t the money to pay for them. So, there you have it. I’ve been busy trying to find agencies that will help a 17 year old get parenting classes, rental assistance, counseling, etc. without any money. I may have finally gotten a few leads of places that will help. I need to check into them later this morning (it is 3:27 am right now). My parents are buying a 4-plex, if they can get it, so that my daughter can have that home CPS demands. That is, it won’t all be for her, but, it is cheaper to make a house payment than to make rent, and, besides, apartment managers do not rent to 17 year olds, despite their having been emancipated by marriage. So, for her to have a home, there is very little option, otherwise. If they get it, I’ll be moving in to the 4-plex, too, and probably, so will my sister. If they don’t get it, we’ll try for the duplex that has the single family rental behind it. I would prefer the 4-plex in that it is conveniently located, i think. However, I would prefer the duplex in that I would not have to live in the same apartment as my sister. Mind you, I love her, but, I do not want to live in the same apartment with her, if I can help it. As she, herself, said: I would like to live near family, but, not with them! Lately, we have been cleaning the pieces out of the house, because an appraiser needs to come and look at it and decide if it would make good collateral. It’s all been a big ball of crazy, brought on by another liar who wants someone else’s children; much like my own divorce. It is weird to be on the same side as my Ex, and to be in agreement, and everything. Neither one of us wants our daughter to go through what we did, or what I did, especially; and, neither one of us wants to go through it, again! That is the shortened (honestly) tale of why I have not been around much. Now, on to the features. Gloria Yellow Inversion :was featured in Yellow Gallery 19 days ago Thank you, Yellow Gallery! Slice of Ordinary Me was featured in Finks of Ink 4 days ago. Wow! I think this is now my most featured piece. Well, I think it already was my most featured piece, but, now, even more so. I’m both humbled and amazed, especially as this was a hands on thing. Digital is great, but, canvas, paint, marker, etc. is all about you, and nothing about the programmer. Well, unless you are speaking religiously! Mirimi 6 17 2009 was featured 2 days ago, thanks be to the THE SISTERHOOD And, Cry was featured in Bits and Pieces, thanks to those wonderful hosts, with the great artistic sense hee hee Thank you all, very much. It’s quite a lovely ego boost, and smile maker, to see that my work has been featured.
